  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi everyone. Firstly hello, what a great forum u guys have here. Great work
I recently purchased a 2008 SMR510 .it was only ever a demo n only has 500 kilometers on the clock. it goes alright but my old sm610 went just as well the dealer said it had the power up kit which included removal of the factory throttle stopthe baffle taken out of a can and an aftermarket air cleaner installed and had the ECU reprogrammed apparently. my question to you is does this sound right I mean I thought it would go pretty hard I expected more from it. what do u guys think about what's been done ? has it been done correctly ?does it need an after market can aswell? I mean the stock can is straight through now so I can't imagine it would would be restricting it much ....
Any thoughts ideas ?

What year 610 did you have. The 510 should be very light and flickable. Depending on the gearing a hell of a bike. Very strong pulling with easy power 2nd gear wheelies.

The OLD 610's had TONS of HP and the kick only bikes were very lightweight so if your 610 was geared down and slightly modified it should be a close match to be honest. 610 able to pull top end gears easier due to the extra torque.

Just my opinion.

The 610 was an 05. All the usual uncorking mods on it but I can't remember the gearing. Barrett pipe air filter and airbox mod and jd jet kit installed

Was the jumper plug installed in the O2 sensor harness? Stock muffler or an Arrow?
Stock muffler with baffle removed as for the jumper pplug I'm not sure, how can I tell? It has a bung where the o2 sensor used to be.. It has been stalling as I slow down coming to an intersection etc also not sure if this is related or not

That 510 should loft the front in 4th gear. Should scare the crap out of you after the 610. It must be geared to the moon (or not properly/completely power-upped).
Gearing is as per factory.maybe it s me not the bike. I'm coming fresh off a current r1 so I guess a 500 single is always gonna feel a bit dull comparatively

Get a power commander and run the map i put up in the efi/carb section on here. I was running just the "power up map" for a while and thought the bike was laggy and underpowered. It even diddnt really like to idle very well. My 510 now comes up in 5th without effort 6th with some weight shift. Im also running 14-45 gearing what are your sprockets like?

Some pointless view
My brother has/was. He got first sm610, there was some little carb, slip-on, cam work/updates, then i was buy that 2010 sm510r, then he test that. He was buying same bike at 2 weeks after test drive, he said to me this this smr is way more better, suspension, brakes, power, lighter, etc. Only "problems" was, that little fuel tank+those maintenance wor if compare sm610 model

My gearing is 14-42 the bike is stock apart from the baffle and o2 sensor removal air filter and ibeat power up ecu reprogram. It's basically brand new has under 500km on the clock

What gas mileage are you getting? That would let you know how rich or lean your map/mixture is.
I haven't done a full tank yet because the bike is making a funny noise like something rattling in the header on full throttle , so I couldn't tell the mileage, however the plug looks as it should.

Could be the TPS settings. Maybe see if the dealer will hook it up to iBeat and make sure the numbers within limits. Also, either a power commander or the JD EFI Tuner helps a lot. The resistor plug should be right near the throttle body. You'll see a harness connector with a plug in it that has no wires coming out of it.
