  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Do I need my decomp cable?

dont really like this thing...always in the way...cant put roll chart there...dont like it on the bottom....dont like it up top....dont even use it...e start almost always works....the one time it didnt I just kicked it not even using the decomp...why is it there the thing has no comp. compared to a big 4 stroke...

would it hurt to just get rid of it and leave the linkage down south?

I've never had one on my 08 TXC250 ... The handle was broken off the brake master cylinder when I got it and I never replaced it ... so I just removed the cable ...

On my my TE450 the decomp lever moves very easily. I would think for the rare occasion you need it on a 250 you could reach down and operate it with a single finger. You might need to put a spring return on it to ensure it does not flop around at speed.

well, if you never use it, why not remove it?

like above, if you ever happen to need it to get the motor past tdc you can manually operate it with your finger

The one time I REALLY needed the manual decomp was to pump the water out of my 510's cylinder after completely dunking it in a "puddle". Didn't have a spark plug wrench yet and was miles from the mothership. Held the decomp in and pumped the kickstarter by hand until water stopped dripping out of the header gaskets at the ports. David and I tipped her up vertical to dump the exhaust and then........ Walla! It started! Here's the oil after riding it back to the pickup.

That was my 2nd or 3rd ride since buying the beast and I was sh!tting bricks thinking the engine was probably toast after running with that slurry for 30 minutes. Still going strong now :applause:

My cable broke and I let it slide for a few moths before getting a replacement. I must say that having 4 Huskies since 2004 with the decomp I have yet to use it.

Water wont hurt it and actually helps dissipate heat but you just can't leave it in there or it will do nasty things to the internal parts.

took mine off my TC and SMR first thing. branches etc will snag or swat it. these motors have auto-decomp's. never once needed it no matter how bad i flooded one getting it upside down etc. you can start my 4-stroke husky's with slippers on in one or two kicks, more like pushes.

all the ZipTy race bikes have it removed with a little red anodized plug in the place of the arm on the motor. (mine is on, on my machine)
