  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Engine Differences?

What are the differences between the liquid wr 400 and 430 motors? Between the 400/430 and the xc500?

We have a 85 xc500 with a bad 84/85 wr400 engine, will the crank out of a 430 work?

How about a schematic of the bottom end? Gotta split the cases and try to put everything back together lol

We are in the internet age pdf files of the parts sheets are available in multiple places. The old way was to special order microfilm sheets and they never would come. Maybe they would if you bought the bike new but I was a little late for that.

As for the crank cavity of engine cases the standard shift two stroke 400, 430, and 500 are the same. The swingarm pivot hole may vary dual shock vs mono shock. They added an extra fastner for the clutch cover at some point, etc.

My 86 400WR has the extra fastener in the clutch cover and cover is aluminum. My 85 400WRX does not have the extra fastener and the cover is magnesium. Oh. the repair I had to do on the impeller floor...

What did you need to do? as i ve just inherited a new water pump problem... the gbox oil is green!!

I cleaned the corrosion out of the damage and filled it with JB Weld. Had a machine shop plane down the primary plane and cut a new seal seat in the JB weld. I left a hole when I cast it so the impellor could be backloaded so he had something accurate to pick up for location. The damage was extensive enough to corrode into the case and pollute the engine oil with coolant
