  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

External Difference Between 2005 and 2006 450 Engine?

Calkins

Husqvarna
AA Class
I am trying to buy a 2006 TC450. I just talked with a mechanic that took care of that bike in the early part of it's life. He told me it was a 2006 frame with a 2005 engine. The main reason I am buying this bike is because it was suppose to be a 2006, which had the upgraded engine.

Is there anything externally that will tell me if this engine is a 2005 or 2006? I seen something about the intake and exhaust manifolds being different, but no clue how. This bike is kick only, but I am sure that it is easy to remove the electric start bits from a 2005 engine.

Ok here we go, the big improvement from 2006 to 2006 was larger valves both intake and exhaust. The kick start system is also a little different but hard to tell if you do not have them side by side. I would check to see if it is a 5 or 6 speed. The 2006 6 speed has the same transmission gears but a different primary ratio to spread the gears a little more. Maybe the easiest way to tell is the 2005 motor used 7.5mm shims and the 2006 motor used 9.5mm shims. The shims are really easy to get to on that version of husky motors. The 2005 was a really reliable motor by the way so it is really not a downer to have.
