• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Fork re- chroming

I don't have a specific recommendation for re-chroming but I have looked into having Franks Forks make a set, estimate was $350. Having an existing set ground and resurfaced may cost just as much. Maybe ask a hydraulic shop where they get their cylinder rods re-plated.

Thanks for the lead Crashaholic , found their website . The website said up to 41 mm and I need 42 mm’s for some Maico’s but still worth a call .

Thanks guys , keep them coming . Just starting the leg work as i’m Still recovering and do get bored but my buddy will have the final say as it’s his bikes and his $$$ being spent .

Off topic - but in regards to hard chrome electroplating crank stubs: As an alternative here is a product from SKF (bearing and seal manufacturer) called Speedi-Sleeve.

From the SKF web site:

"This thin-walled sleeve [0,28 mm (0.011 in.)], developed by SKF, is simply pushed in position over the worn area, providing a counterface surface that is optimized for radial shaft seals.

There is no shaft disassembly or machining involved and costly downtime is minimized. Since the same sized seal as the original can be used, there is no need to search for other seals, or keep a stock of different sizes.

No special equipment is required since the installation tool is supplied with the sleeve. A mallet and a pair of pliers are all that is needed for the installation."

Wow, Like that option. Oh united so busy on fork tubes not takine any more until next year. Crazy

They also so not do the small items like crank stubs.

Dittos on United Surface Finishing in Canton Ohio. They did one set for me a couple of years ago and the tubes turned out great (see pic). They will strip existing chrome, polish to remove imperfections up to .020”, Hard chrome plate to Pre existing size, and polish. Their quote for a set of 40 mm Husky fork tubes was $300.00 per set less than a year ago. Found a good set locally for $100 so I didn't end up needing the service.
