• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Greetings everyone!

Curious to know about the feasibility of fitting a CR motor, possibly a 250, into the frame of my 1982 125 WR. Some fellows are trying to get some vintage mx going in my area and I know that I will want a little more horsepower.

Any input? What year of motor should I start searching for? Other issues...exhaust mount locations, for example.

Let me know your thoughts and opinions...thanks.

Others will chime in but I believe that the 125 -175 are a machine of there own. The 250 430 500 are interchangable. Besides, a 1982 125 is kinda a rare machine, much more than a 250, you may not want to mess with it.

I agree wholeheartedly! I'm not talking about a permanent change, however. I want to learn if I can swap out a motor without major difficulty. I will want to return the 125 engine back into the frame later, as it also my only trail bike. I won't cut or weld anything to the frame...I'm a stickler about all of that. If it isn't a good idea...I won't pursue it! Thanks.

If you need to know about the frame for sure, the best thing to do is to look at the parts catalog for 1982 and verify the part numbers for the 125 frame and a corresponding 250 frame like CR to CR or WR to WR. The 1978 Auto frame I have for example was shared with the 125s but afterward Husqvarna may have created a separate frame for 125/175 models. You will find a high quality 82 parts catalog in Vintage Tech. You may find the same frame was used for all in 1982

I just checked the parts catalog and the same frame was used for 125 - 430 CR models. I am sure it applies to WRs as well

Kent -

I put a 1983 wr in my 82 wr 125 and have been riding it for years for lay out of desert races - short suspension makes it more manageable. The engine went right in with little drama. I'm going through the bike now and looking for help with rebuild of Betor shocks. Schneider

Husky frames are all the same, many times the 125 had to wait one year to get a "new" frame, but it did not get a special frame, all the engines swap to any other frame with the right mount brackets. Your '82 125 frame is identical to the '82 250 or 430 frame with different forks and shorter shocks. You could very easily put a 250 engine in there without doing any irreversible changes that could be changed back when you wanted the bike back to stock.
