• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Front end swaps? Building another bike!

'87 500XC

Husqvarna
AA Class
In the process of building another bike. It’s just a frame now, but as I build this I want to add some modern touches to it as compared to a full period correct build like my 87 500.

Bike started as an ‘88 430AE. I have no desire to rebuild the automatic so will be sourcing a complete motor (preferably 430-500)

I’m sure I’ll have many questions, but I’ll start with:

•Front end swaps
What have you guys done in regards to swapping a modern front end? Currently have the stock 40mm conventionals which aren’t that good and would like something better. I have read about YZ clamps that should bolt up, an 01 CR250 setup, 96-98 RM250 setup etc. I’m looking for details regarding these and any others, such as what bearings to use, clearance issues, fork lengths compared to stock etc etc.

Thanks!

I'm using Modern 48mm forks on both my 430. I used KYB's off my 2014 300wr triples bolted right up. Need to use the bearings for a 2014.
I added two washers on the head stem one on bottom , one on top to take up the space when the adjuster nut ran out of threads.

What are your plans for the auto motor?? I'd be interested

Nice looking bike, I was hoping that ktm triple clamps would bolt up but the stem is too short. I have a spare triple clamp from a 2015 and the stem is about 1/2” too short.

I’ll look into the ‘14 husky front end thanks!

I have the auto motor on a shelf in the garage right now. It’ll probably just stay there. Maybe in time people will start manufacturing replacement parts and clutches for it. The project right now is already big enough, so I just don’t have the desire to source parts for the auto engine at the same time.

I'm going to use these Marzocchi's to use on my auto. Only 45mm, but they're Brand New and the Price!!! Make him an offer I only paid $199!!

Used with a set of '93 360wr clamps, 2014 brake, hub and axle. Still need to collect a rim, disk, m/c to complete.

The gold Marzocchi 45mm from the 2000's Husky is a bolt on. Here's a complete 2004 front end, shortened to 10" travel, on my 81 430WR.
