• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Fuel Tank Damper Placement 1983 models?

Chayzed Pilot

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have tried the search function and looked at just about every thread on here and can't find a pic. Where does the rubber damper locate on the backbone of the 83 frame. Mine came in a box so I didn't have a reference of where exactly it goes. Help!

The two go through the front holes of tank for bolt to go through.

Then there are two back bone pads for under side of tank.

On the back hooks you can use an oring from tank, back hook to frame hook on passenger side.

If you need to order a strap, I crossed them over for like $6.

I know what the front mounts are, but I am trying to figure out the back bone pad. The chances are this one isn't for a Husky. If I remember correctly form past experience there was a thin pad that covered the back bone. I just didn't know if this one was the same. Any pic's? BTW, the tank look great.

You need two of these serrated ones. One goes above approximatley above coil and one towards the rear. I glue these under the tank with weather strip adhesive. Makes, so you don't lose them and tank on and off removal a breeze.

On the pre 81 models. I just use a Buna rubber pad, 1/4 inch thick x 2" width from Mc Master Carr. I just cut them to length.

Also, let that tank cure some in the hot sun, then let it cool off. Do that a couple of times. After a month when clear coat has fully cured/shrinks, you can color sand it from 1500 grit to 3500 grit and buff it. Look like a Lamborghini paint job!

Scott, I have a piece of that McMaster Carr rubber (I used to work there). If you want a piece I can send it to you. Did you get the shocks yet?

The backbone pad is about 1.75" wide and wraps the backbone I believe just rearward of the centerpoint of the straight portion of the backbone member

I looked at the pics on the link that was given for Husqvarna-parts. The mount I have is the serated one so it is the correct one. I would assume that one goes above the coil area? I am also assuming that the fit is real tight. I don't want to jump on the tank to hard to install it. I was trying a mock up and it seemed overly tight and I didn't want to dent the tank.

Yes, kinda tight fit. I trimmed some of the first serrated edges with razor blade so mine fit easier. My thoughts were. Same as yours puushing tank on.

Here is a pic of what I have. Does this look about right?

Yes, I cut first set off. I think after 20 + years the get hard and don't give as easy. I think that one is ok/or move it back some before back bone bracket, but you need nother one closer up front but above coil. Most ones I have seen have two.

Wipe that one clean with lacquer thinner real good. You can glue it under tank with 3m weather strip adhesive. That way it always stays attached to tank. Really makes it easy cause sometimes bottom of tank edges don't want to go over that rubber and you kinda have to cock them to the side. Alot guys used to tape or duct tape them on and that makes a slimy mess. Some guys zip tie them as well.

I just duck taped mine to the frame and pull the tank apart slightly as I slip it on. Glueing seems like a good idea...
