• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Future Husky Parts Availability?

Offroad Newb

Husqvarna
With the recent change in ownership of the Husqvarna company, does anyone anticipate problems getting parts for these bikes? I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 TE450 so I called our local Husky dealer (who also sells BMW), only to find that they've just dropped the brand and will no longer sell parts.

The parts guy advised against buying a Husky because he said it might be quite a while before the dust settles and another local dealer steps up. The bike I'm looking at has 8,500 kms on it so it seems likely that parts/service will be needed in the fairly near future. I really like the bike but I'm starting to feel like a Japanese machine might be a safer bet from that point of view (unless I can get the Husky really cheap of course - he's asking $3,800 for it). Any opinions appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think you will have any problems finding parts for that model. Lots of crossover and lots of those bikes.

This is really a good question. And I think depends on ALOT of things. I would think for now and in the near future a guy would be safe and if SP allows the bikes to remain with Italian engines then a guy of course is really safe! Price on used ones at the moment should be pretty sweet considering the deals on the new ones!

I think parts will be around for a long time, they are still selling new bikes, with a 2 year warranty, on top of there is a huge market for parts with so many bikes around for many years to come, even if Husqvarna do stop producing bikes, someone will step into their shoes to make parts available, with cross over too

KTM's CEO has publicly committed to providing parts for 10+ years.

I don't know where the OP is located, I'm assuming it's not in the US since he mentioned mileage in KMs. In the US, there are a few dealers that are really good at handling parts requests like motoxotica.com, halls-cycles.com and billshusky.com

Thanks for the quick replies folks, it sounds like parts shouldn't be a problem. The owner of this 2010 TE450 with 8,500 kms (5,300 miles) on it says the valves are still in spec and the bike has not required any other engine work to date. It seems like a lot of miles for a dirt bike though. Based on your collective experience, does it seem likely that this bike will need $$$ work in the near future? The bike appeals to me because I haven't found a fuel injected Japanese bike for anywhere near this price. But if I'm looking at an engine rebuild in the next year then I might be better off with a Japanese bike that's a few years older, but has less hours on it (even if it's carbureted).

You have not posted the asking price, (Opps sorry see you have) but check new prices now, as huge discounts are being offered, you may get it cheaper

That bike is a fair deal for $3800 CDN. A customer of mine had 27000kms on his SMR450 and another had 30000 on his TE450 so the motor will go the distance if maintained.

I would be a little worried about parts. Back when I got my 87 430 CR it was just in the switch over to Cagiva from Husqvarna Swedan. I had a hard time getting parts by 91. Cagiva didn't want to make parts for Swedish Husqvarna they wanted just parts for bike that they where building. I had a 94 WXC by 98 it was hard getting plastic for it. Granted parts are easier to find for Husqvarna now. The really hard thing for my Swedish bike was that anyone who had parts for them had prices at really high levels. It did get better as time went on. If I had 2010 and up bike and planed to keep it for some time I would get all the parts order that you can think of right now. Before KTM dosn't want to make them and people who have the parts start jacking up the prices.
