  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Gas Cap trim

Brrrrp

Husqvarna
What is this plastic trim piece for?

It is the piece under the gas cap on a 09 SM510R

Is this why I'm having sealing problems?

It gives the bike approximately 10 more hp. It was designed after extensive dirt bike wind tunnel testing and wind resistance monitoring.

really, I don't think it serves any purpose other than to make it a pain in the ass to get the cap back on!

I don't think the fuel injection system will work correctley without it.There must be a reason for ,don't do it.If nothing else you'll void the warranty,in the kingdom of OZ.

I was told it is to stop your nuts getting jammed against the gas cap if you end up sliding too far up on the tank.

I believe it does cause sealing problems due to the gas cap bottoming out on that trim piece before the seal is fully compressed. Mine leaked until I removed that piece.

Right. I did a DirtWise school with Shane Watts recently and he said the same thing. I think the technical term for it is "Special Protector". I appreciate how Husqvarna went the extra mile to take care of us. :)

And of course it gives you the opportunity to add a bit of carbon fibre:thumbsup:

If your cap is leaking take it off and turn the rubber insert inside the cap half a turn, making sure that it is sitting above the threads.

Its not so much that they care more than the other manufacturers, rather they don't want to impede the ability of Husky riders to reproduce the next generation of Husky riders:D
