  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Gear Position Sensor questions..

Hello,

I have an issue with the Gear Position Sensor on my Te250 -08.
The cable is pulled of from the sensor...

I have a few thoughts,
Is the sensor really used for anything apart from Neutral indicator lamp?
Can the sensor be removed without draining the oil?
Will I be able to solder back the cable if i remove the sensor or do I need to by a new one?

I would really appreciate any tips!

My '04 didn't have a neutral light, but it does have a GPS. Doubtless it's something to do with tweaking ignition timing curves for each gear. Dunno if it's repairable with a soldering iron, but if you lie the bike on it's right side (prop it on something so the brake lever doesn't hit the deck) you'll be able to remove it without losing any oil (I imagine it'll leak otherwise). Just remember to give the area around it a gook clean first. There'll be a pin and spring under it which will be ripe for losing, so keep an eye out for that. Good luck, hope it goes well.

You have got me convined that the GPS is important.
Otherwise it's probably the most overengineered piece of neutral gear indicator ever constructed..
I found a used GPS at ebay and I bought that one.
I will replace at next oil-change and THANX A LOT for the pin&spring info -

Can anyone confirm or deny this? I've wondered about the sensor but thought it was for the neutral position light or Gear poisiton like mentioned above.. I have even disconnected one before without noticing difference. Though it would take some dyno runs to see if it really was making a difference with/without it if it's indeed for adjusting ignition.

I found that the iBeat can read the gear from the CDI so there is no doubt the gear data is available for the CDI, I suppose the question is if the software really use it..
My local husky dealer is not sure..

In that case, I wonder how much or how little its used on the carb'd models as well as FI

Hello all,
I just spoke to one of the husky tech seniors here in the north of europe, he said that the GPS does affect the ignition timing but very little.
He has tested with/without it and did not notice the difference....
...so - with my driving style the breakfeast choice will probably be more significant..:oldman:
