• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Gearbox oil level 82 430?

I just filled my gearbox to the oil level screw in the clutch cover and it took 1.3 litres. Its a 2000 4T cover though and a 6 spring clutch so is this right? I had heard this gearbox takes 1.6 litres, should I top it up with the extra?

Intresting when there was all the discussion about making new covers no one actually came on and said they work. I pulled up a picture of my 1999 410 engine and it has a sight glass not a removable threaded plug. It is up to you what to do, the level looks pretty much in the right elevation, over filling makes leaking more likely on used stuff but hasn't ever done any harm. Surely that level is high enough for the gears to sling oil around. I think you are stating the cover came off a bike with a six spring clutch and asking if anyone knows if the volume below the oil line is different. The spec in the manual aside there is a pretty decent distance between the high and low level lumps cast into the origional cover.

Perhaps you have explained in the restoration area but I might ask the following.
Lookis like an 83 white frame to me not a silver 82.
I see that extra fastner near the kick starter is that an add on or have you got newer cases and the swingarm bolt fitting modified? I can't remember exactly where but there is another extra fastner on my 1999 cover perhaps in the shadow.

You're right its a 1983 500 frame with an 81/82 430 engine.
The fastener is an add on with old cases.
I was thinking though, it has a six spring clutch fitted which is why the new ally cover I bought didn't fit. It was excellent apart from that, its on Ebay now. The six spring clutch is quite a lot bigger and so would displace more oil so I reckon as the 610-te the cover is from runs the same clutch so the level hole should be in the right place and the amount of oil compared to the original will be a little less. I think that makes sense.
