  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ok guy's took husky out for a rip this afternoon as i have my 1st race next weekend since breaking my arm ..... now i have fitted a new carb and side cases (hva) but now when going up through the geabox 1st and 2nd are ok but 3rd now feels like the clutch is slipping hit 4th and 5th and drive is good again ....
now is this a geabox issue if so what !! or just some weird clutch issue !!
any idea's are welcome , oh its an 84 500 but with an 86 bottom end....
..... help .....

It doesen't sound like a very "weird clutch issue" to me as I have never herd of this type of a clutch issue happening before. Sounds more like a gear box issue. Dive right in and pull the clutch cover off and completely dissasemble the clutch and inspect everything 100%. If everything checks out ok then you have to dig deeper into the engine, As most likely you have worn parts in the transmission.

hmmm , have taken front sprocket off and seem to have a bit of play (in /out) on sprocket shaft , would this cause it to disengage whilst in 3rd !!

To stop the sprocket slopping around just slide a "o" ring on the shaft to take up the slack.

Clutch
Buy a new set of steel plates , chuck the ally ones , replace the fiber plates with new kevlar ones.
My 85/400 and 86/240 were doing this and it was the old fiber plates glazed up.
The new steel ones just help with the disengage bit. [ Take a little of the clutch drag out ]
Run straight 30 oil. [ Briggs n Stratton engine oil works fine ]
Worth the trouble and money.:)

cheers dukkman will look into that .
what i have found is when i took the sprocket off ..... i made a stainless plate to replace the the ali one which used to hold a spacer in the original. instead of a spacer i made it to hold a bearing , this bearing has broke up . i have just replaced the bearing and the shaft now doesnt move so hopefully it will be ok .
