• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So I keep hearing bout our crappy fuels and all the oxi clean additives....
I use my machine weekly so I never had issues, until.
I washed the TE310 and broke my start the engine and heat cycle after intro-ing water to it. She sat for week, my best guess is that some water got in and made a nice "acid" brew and did a little number on a valve.
She would not start at all so I did all the usual stuff
pulled the fuel hose off the manifold-it spayed like a garden hose (plus I wanted to be sure of no water in the line)
pulled the throttle body-it sprayed
pulled the injector anyway and cleaned it.
Fuel system checks good
Electric time
waited to pull plug because I knew my connectors have not been serviced
removed and cleaned all electric connectors there was some corrosion an some, was good time to service them all.
checked all fuses
reseated all connectors, to get that contact scrape thing going.
pulled plug, great spark.
Electric checks good.
I am happy to certain degree.
Bike still no start.
Mech time
pop the top cover
valves are moving and clearance is good if not on the more loose side.
lock out comp release with a little piece of fuel line( trick)
check compression------zero-25
OK great
use zep preserve and liberally spry it into chamber and kick through, spray into intake port as well.
Let her sit for whiie after exercising the kick starter.
comp comes up to mid 30s more exercise comes up to 65
last check and its in the eighties
Put everything back together and she starts instantly.
I guess it could have happened with any fuel out there, but my mech has been seeing lots of services on all the carb and FI street bikes for this valve lap surface corrosion (that what I think it was) and injector clogs from the new clean fuels.

So that said just dont let em sit, run the engine and be sure to cycle your fuel through and keep it fresh or dump it (use it for the lawnmower maybe) and refill your tank with fresh fuel.
Any suggestions recommendation for one of the fuel additives ( I am going to run some Techron thru, I like that stuff), But more for the stability and water removal from the alcohol fuels.

I always warm the bike up after washing it, then drain the carb before storing it. I use Marine Formula Stabil in the fuel. I have had zero problems so far over the years.

Oh....and I use a teeny bit of Motul two stroke oil in each tank of gas (a cap full).

With Fuel injection there's no carb to drain-don't know a simple way to get fuel out of the injectors. Drain the complete tank every time...?

just gotta run it dont let that fuel manifold fuel behind the injector solenoid stagnate in there and gum up the works. Now that I popped the fuel hose off and fired off the fuel pump this is a great way to get out almost all of any old fuel, just pump it right out into a container. To do a refill with fresh fuel if its been sitting around.

My recently acquired WR250 was a reluctant starter. So I opened up the carb to took a look at the jetting and found gumminess galore. Apparently it sat a bit too long without treatment in the fuel. If storing any length of time (over a month) I put StaBil in FI bikes and drain carbed bikes. And I try to run 'clear' gas if at all possible.

I use Startron fuel stabilizer. It is great for ethanol gas. ( I used to use sea-foam but was recommend Strartron for FI bikes) What I really like is Sunoco race gas which does not have ethanol.

I run stright race gas 110 leaded in all my bikes never had a problem you can let it sit for almost forever with no problem cost like 8.50 a gallon these days got 25 gallons yesterday yes twise the cost of junk pump fuel But I so far in over 30 years of using it have had zero problems
so what is it worth to you to have no problems in your offroad bike

There are a number of stations that sell non alcoholic gas here in OR. I use it in all my offroad bikes and bikes that don't get ridden very often., sometimes mixing it with leaded AV gas.
It still works fine even after a year or more.

Ajax while I fully agree it just not practical for my new FI bikes.
My TXC450 was run as much a practical on 1/3 unlead race gas mixed with top tier premium pump for a mid to high 90s octane rate. prob close to EU premium pump. but practicality meant sometimes full pump sometimes Mexico shack milk jug fuel. So jetted accordingly.
Your CRs are 100% racing machines, show up and race. My 4Ts are DS,trail riders, mexico trail riders and race machines all rolled into one. Practicality requires them to run on premium pump, always tier 1 brands like shell, 76, exxon etc.
Mic thanks I will look into the startron stuff to offset the special fuels we have.

Mexico shack milk jug fuel.

I've done a few of those rides! Gas up at the Sawmill-I guess the old gal that offered up that gas just recently passed away:(......

Use Startron or Stabil. And you can let them sit six+ months no problem.
Use 32 oz. of Torco Accelerator with 10 gallons of 91 octane to achieve 102 octane. (5 gallons -> 105 octane)

Do you across the pond have poor quality petrol? I use standard UK 97 octane unleaded and can leave my bike for 3 months over the winter without starting and it will fire up and run great every spring, been doing this for many years without issue?

High quality, 10% Ethanol added to our fuels. Lower emissions.

I kn ow CA is way different but I have been noticing a real push by gas stations around here lately to carry at least one pump with 91+ no ethanol. I probably have 6 stations within 6 miles of pure gas.

Startron yes, but Stabil is a no-no in a small area like the float bowl. For whatever reason I have to drain the bowl on everything that stands long term before it will start. Now VP makes a storage fuel for long term storage that has no ethanol in it. I just use race gas in anything that stands for more than 30 days like C12 or VP110.
