  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help me compare 2010 TXC 250 with 2010 or 2011 TE310

Greetings,

I finally did my first harescramble last month. I did it on a CRF450 and am looking for a 250 4t of some sort for next season to do harescambles with and perhaps do two or three enduroes.

So, I had it narrowed down to a 2010 TXC 250 but now the 2011 TE310 looks VERY tempting. I know that either bike will feel "underpowered" compared to my CRF450--thus, the idea of the 310 for more low end grunt. However, here's my quandry: does the 310, being built as an "enduro" model, have less punch/hit to the motor than the 2010 TXC 250? In other words--is the 2011 (or even 2010) TE310 mellower on power than the 2010 TXC250?

Not sure I want to spent the money right away to upgrade the TXC 250 with the 310 kit but could be swayed with sound reason.

Thanks in advance.

2010 is the first model year for the new 250 engine and 2011 is the first model year for the new 310 engine. So, there are not many who can speak on direct comparison since the 310s are not in most dealers yet. But if you want a comparison of the new 250 against the older 310 I would still prefer the 250 due to the snappier power delivery and lighter handling. The new 310 looks very promising. That's what EVERYBODY is waiting to find out.

Darkside, thanks for the response and info.

I was hoping more people here might have ridden at least both 2010 models to help compare them for me. The problem is that the used ones around here are 2007 and 2008 models and being able to ride them side by side won't be possible and not truly answer the question of how the 2010s compare.

I've been told that the 310 has about 4 hp more than the TXC250 and that the changes to the 2011 310 engine will mean even more torque than last years so I guess in the end it will be personal preference--more hp and torque but mellower power OR more hit.

How good are chances that a lighter flywheel and different sized sprokets could allow the 310 to recreate the TXC250's "hit".

Also, now I've found that the new 310 KYBs are single chamber. Wouldn't the dual chamber KYBs on the TXC250 but plusher and easier to work with?

Thanks agian.

i think there is to many what ifs at the moment with the new 310 I'm shaw it will be great..........mate i have a 09 te450 that will climb the side of a mountain and is frigen fast this is how i set it up......i have the new te250 and now that i have been setting this thing up it shits all over the 450...............its not the bike its how you set them up for what you want to do

thanks H.B

Coming from a 450 to a 250 or 310 is initially a bit of work. I must say my first ride left me a bit flat. Howevr by ride 3 I was fully aware how much better I was attacking difficult terrain. The 310 has more poise than my 450 and I was feeling so much less whacked at the end of the ride. I will not go to a 450 for ST riding again. Now for desret blasting in the open the 450/510's are just brilliant. For me its horses for courses.
