  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help needed with kick start spring installation

For some reason I had the brilliant notion that I needed to disassemble the kick start mechanism to advance the shaft. My goal is to have the lever engage earlier – right now it engages at 3 o'clock. I believe all I needed to do was take the lever off and move it up one spline. Anyway, I'm trying to reassemble the spring and am having difficulties. I know how it should look when done. Does anyone have any tips or trick to get it properly installed? It looks like the spring would go into the spring holder first. But what holds the shaft in place when installing the spring? And it looks like the shaft needs to be pushed out a bit to be able to get the tab of the spring in. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,

For the record, you install the spring into the spring holder and the hole in the shaft. Rotate the shaft - I used a vise grip - until it is passed the point where it would engage with the gear (the recess in the spring holder by the lower screw in the photo above.) Make sure the shaft is pushed all the way into the case. Place the pawl spring and pawl. Gently rotate the shaft backwards until it stops (approximately in the position in the photo above). Now wasn't that easy! :)

Also, I noticed that the one of the springs for the spring holder was on the loose side. Might be a good idea to check them next time you're in the clutch cover.
