  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

6.. WEIGHT BALANCE
7.. GEARING
8.. EFI
9.. FUEL TANK

Not riden "Back to Back " But riden both and own 011 310 .

Suspension , pretty much same , depends on ya weight , ability , riding etc.... anyways .
Frame & Brakes , basically same on both .
Engine , HUGE difference . Uncorked 310 pulls great and dosent need to be reved / clutched like 250 .
Feel , 250 feels "gutless" after riding 310 !
Weight , almost identical .
Gearing , for UK enduro I run 13/50 no problems .
EFI , For UK conditions Co1 set @ 95 otherwise standard , runs great no problems (idle 1900 rpm) .
Fuel Tank , Bigger on 310 and a pain in the arse ! Wish I had smaller 2010 Tank ! Why ? Air Filter accsess , ease of removal , Plug accsess , strange "balance pipe " etc....

I would go 2011 310 all day every day , with the exception of Fuel Tank , and Oil Drain (310 has pipe on it which makes it a little trickey !)
I can see no reason not to !

I have ridden several of the TE250's of that vintage and owned a 2011 TXC250 thats is similar to the 2011 TE310. The 250 has the old motor, revs slower, makes less power but is a GREAT trail bike. The new engine rev much quicker, feels a lot stronger (even in 250 form) and has a much more racy new school 4st feel to it. The 2011 also has a new frame suspension and the small motor which combine to feel MUCH lighter than the older platform. So to answer directly IMHO....

1. similar, both very good for DS but undersprung for most and to soft for high speed racing.
2. like the 2011 better, feels lighter and more flickable by a noticeable margin.
3. Same but probably feel better on the lighter 310
4. 250 is a slower reving and real EZ to use, nice old school feeling mellow power, 310 revs a lot quicker, wants to stall EZer but RIPS in comparison.
5. Like the X-light platform better, feels lighter, even lighter than it is. Very light feeling 4st
6. same as above
7. Both are tight ratio 6 speeds that are great for off road but really to tight for real DS use.
8. Both need the JD tuner (cheap) to run right IMHO
9. 310 is slightly bigger.

If you are a beginning trail riders / explorer type and want a super nice accommodating EZ to ride bike get the 250, especially if it is a big savings over the 310. If you are more aggressive, like quicker more flickable bikes that you need to really RIDE to use correctly than get the 310.

Ive ridden both - own 250. Wasnt that impressed with the 310 - but I was test riding 449 as well so probably why . I didnt notice that it felt heavier than a 250 .
A well set up 250 is just as quick and has plenty of power . Look at results at A4DE - Salvini 250 vs Kearney on 310
For me it come down to cost '11 250 s demo for $9k or 310 - $11500? If you can afford depreciation then 310 a better bike
Why change from '10 250 ? You may only get 5k-6k for it .
Id suggest you try the bigger intake mod like on mine - its an animal. It goes off.

oops duh

Same bike little more power then right?

some good info guys please help me out hear...... pros and cons seem the same true??? .. the 310 has a bit more power down low more torque i think... if a 310 is set up with a pcv/dyno tune would this be a great bike over the 250 ????????

ps..a well set up 2010 250 with all the gear/mods would be the same as a stock 2011 310 true??????

Not sure you can compare Pro riders like that ? If Salvini rode 310 would he still of beaten Kearney on a 250 ???? Meo seems OK on a 310 ****************************************

Why is there a cost difference ? ( I sugest 310 is more sort after ? ) I think that says it all .

My opinion you would not need pcv/auto tune on a 310 .

I dont think a 250 (however set up ) would be the same as a 310 that 50 odd ccs makes a hell of a difference !

Obviously people who got ( and like ) 250s will sing there praises , and same for 310 owners !

I agree you cant really compare riders but the 310 isnt doing too well against the 350s and 450s. Meo is'nt doing any better on the 310 than he did on the 250 is he? He was getting a lot of fastest of all classes on the 250 in 2010

The 310 is more sort after . The 310 makes for better hill climbing and better all round bike for sure .. is it worth extra $ is the question

Sorry but thats not True !

Meo is 50 Points clear in the E2 class (450) on a 310 !

In 12 events he has never been lower than 4th (once) !

If thats "isnt doing too well against the 350s and 450s" I not sure what is ****************************************

Sorry but what Meo is achieving on a 310 (against 450s and the new "wonder machine" 350s) is nothing short of remarkable !

Rant over ****************************************

I think TE 250 and 310 are both great bikes !

As always personal preference , riding area , riding type , wallet , availability etc... all need to be taken into account .

im the owner of a 2010 250 and that is the best bike i have owned i think it just misses a bit of torque ..so what im asking what would i see in going to a 310 ....would the 310 be the same to flick around as the 250 and would it be better in s/t and flowing s/t ....as rockdancer said better for hill climbs would be a + on any bike
as for the pcv that would not be a problem as i have one ready to go on a bike
im just looking at the diffarance in the two bikes FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE RIDDEN BOTH BIKES
$$$$ in not the problem atm

thanks for the help

You missed my point - Meo is a freak - he smashed everyone on 450s or 530s in 2010 on the 250 as well - and possibly more so than in 2011
I am looking at other results as well as EWC
Most also say that the KTM 350 cant match the 450s but a good rider such as Toby Price would has just won the A4DE on the 350 - motocross is different story

My point is the 250 with tweaks will be fast enough for any of us

HB - if $ not an issue get the 310 as a fast trail rider Im sure it would suit you - and yes Id like to hear from others too but not many get chance to ride them back to back

so with little input from this post i can work out that the 310 is the same as the 250 but the 310 has a bit more torque down low to mid am i RIGHT???? if the 310 is as light and flickable as the 250 it should make a great bike

You have it right. I have the 11 TE310 and it has a easy riding style. Checked the weight differance between a KTM 300 2t, both bikes ready to ride/full of fuel & compareable add ons the 300EXC was 15lbs lighter than my 310 but is close to $800 more & not street legal in all 50 states.

There is no 310 kit for a 2010 txc250, right? I heard that the cases are different from a 2010 txc250 to a 2011 te310 so I can't just bolt the parts from the 310 onto my 250. Does anyone know what the differences are?
