  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hot starting issues 310 2013-2014

Has anyone really made clear what cause this problem? I have one of the last bikes called 2014. Mine is a TE but thats not important. I have talked with two other guys that own similar bikes (2 2014 and 1 2013). We all have had the same problems. One of us has fixed his problem after 1,5 years and over 250 hours on it. This guy owns two bikes (one 2013 and one 2014). The 2014 has become a donation bike. Its brand new but a lot of parts have been used for testing to get rid of the hot starting issue on the 2013. After 250 hours he has fixed his 2013. The problems he had was helped by everything else but the but the ones online.

We have all read about battery changes, new valve shims and replacing the temp sensor. For some it has helped but most of the time every thread leads to new questions. For my friend it helped with an ecu map update and a new injector. Can someone please make this topic or anotherone to a summary that helps us to fix this problem once for all? A summary that thays 1. Check this, 2. Check this, 3. Check this and so on and so on. Before Im starting to order more parts I would like some help that reduces the $$$$ that will leave my account. My bike has 100 + hours on it so far and this has followed me since the bike was new. I have done everything but the ecu update and the injector change. Its easy to accept during practise but a pain in the ass when you compete.

What did the guy who fixed his bike do?

The easiest thing to do first is that temp sensor as you can just cross it out as a culprit and move on. Next is isolating what map you are running, 1,2 or 3 and what you have done to your bike if anything. Forget about the ECU and injector upgrade as they pertain to the earlier black heads.

Valve stuff/decompressor and better battery are worth doing. The valves at 1k miles will need attention anyway, mostly the intakes but the valve shim on the decompressor side "may" need to go tighter if your bike feels locked up by the kickstarter and clicks/freezes constantly. The EarthX batteries have very good stable power and don't fade like the Yuasa in use. Mine is almost 2 years old now. It helps alot. Lastly a culprit can be mapping/fueling and whether lean or rich in hot temps at elevation. I sorted mine just about 100% with a PCV and Autotune I am running Map 3 so if you decided to run a PCV I generated two good maps I posted on another thread.

Hope this helps. Best to go step by step and not all at once sorting each issue. Knowing your setup is key though.

Hi isn't the PCV and autotune just for the earlier models?

I have a 2013 txc250 and found the decomp valve tightening (005) made the bike turn over alot faster

My TPS needed turning so tickover higher and therefore richer

Now I'm having temp sensor issues need to order a new one and try

Not any more. I got the first and only one from the factory last fall and had them install autotune as well. Now ZipTy is selling the PCV for them.

Problem solved for me. Upgraded the ecu to the Leo Vince map (same that helped my friend) NOT ME. Then changed battery to a li-ion and BOOOM. 7-8 more hours with no failure. Can even start with gear and clutch :). Still feels spooky everytime I need a restart. Im so used with the issue. I feel that I can learn living with this new habit though. Feels wonderful :D
