  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How do I remove this??!!??

I've searched, and no results.

2014 TXC 310 R

Trying to remove the starter motor, and I'm unable to sneak it past the coil, which is attached under the throttle body.

For the life of me, I CANNOT get the coil nor the connector removed from the bracket. I can't even get the connector apart! What's the trick?

I feel if I can get the electrical connector off the bracket, then I can slide the coil's rubber mount off. But I can't even get the connector apart, much less slide the female part of the connector off the bracket. Help!

Do you not have the clearance to wiggle the stater out then tip it down to clear the coil? I normally use a flat head screwdriver between the starter and the block and gently pry the starter away. Then wiggle out. From the picture it looks like you should have clearance.

I can get the starter 70% out, but it can't squeeze between the capacitor/coil and the kickstarter casing. if I can't figure out how to remove the coil and connector from that bracket, I will have to rotate the throttle body out of the way. I was hoping to not to do that, but I might have to.

You could take the cap off the pinion gear (26) and remove the bolt (28). Then remove the gear and washer (29,46) and put aside. The gear (28) is the only thing holing the starter to the assembly. This should allow you to wiggle starter free from the housing and the longer pinion shaft can be removed afterwards. That said I would check with others who have done the job before going through all this. If you can get it out as one. It's a easy on the bench.

Also when you order parts. I would order a new starter gasket and both woodruff keys. it's about 1.00 each so its cheep insurance.

I was able to rotate the throttle body JUST enough to sneak the starter motor assembly out. It was a tight squeeze. Thanks again!

You should be able to remove that capacitor. The rubber mount should be able to be pulled side to side over the flat metal piece it is mounted to. The end of it has a prong on each side that you will have to get it started over and then wiggle it side to side. You may find the extra room handy for reinstalling.

The real problem was that the electrical connector attached to bracket needs to be removed before the capacitor rubber can be slid off. And I couldn't get the effing connector to budge. I'm sure there is an invisible release to pull up or something, but it plumb evaded me. Oh, well. I got the starter mechanism out, and my TC block off plate is on its way. I'll be kick-only very soon! Oh, and if any one is interested, the starter motor, pinion gears, worm gear, ring gear and sprag altogether weighed three pounds.
