  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I know this has been kicked around a few times in the past but....I am wondering specificaly for a '2010 TE 450 what the range is on a full tank of dino juce. I'm lookin for a cross section of examples, both on and off road. What can I expect on a 50/50 dual sport ride, a 90/10 dirt/street dual sport ride and 100% off road.
Also if any one has any experience on how altitude affect their milage. My bike lives at 4,000 ft.

Thanks,

Thor.

As far as your wife will let you.

With the stock tank, I have gotten a low of 30mpg and a high of 40mpg, I am at 800 feet above seal level. I am fully uncorked and running a little rich.

I have an 08 TE 450 and cant imagine im too far off the path of yours. My bikes whole life its been running rich until just a couple weeks ago. When running a little rich, ive never gotten past the 50's. When running single track race like, im lucky to just get to 50(usually dont). One time I did a DS ride, all dirt but a mix of dirt roads and trails, mostly in explorer mode and I was breathing on fumes at about 58 miles. Gas light had been on for a long while. Another time I did a DS ride on just a little pavement, dirt roads and trails, brought with 48 OZ spare gas and got nearly 70 miles with the gas light on several miles before my driveway.

I answered less then 50miles on your poll but with a valid reason... when I was kinda babying the bike during break in I twice went about 60miles on about 1.5 gallons (est 40mpg) then after the break in and now riding it like the race bike it is I average about 25mpg (I ran out of gas twice less then 50miles total ride). I have since added the 3.0gallon IMS tank but it wont change mpg's just how far you push when you do run out

with that said I also ride mostly thick sand and am heavy on the right wrist... oh and its a 510 not a 450

Thanks guys, very helpful....Lets keep it coming.

Let me know what you have seen on your Injected TE 450/510's.

Also intrested in what type of containers you all use to carry fuel. I've heard 1 Liter Soda bottles, MSR camping fuel cans, etc....

Thanks,

The Hammer.

1.3 gal Acerbis can, bolted to the right side sub-frame spar. I carry 1 or 2 1-gal oil cans in a backpack, depending on how far I need to go. I tried 2 different IMS 3 gal gas tanks, but they both leaked around the fuel pump flange, so I am back to stock 1.9 gal tank.
