  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husky Engines live on at Gas Gas?

My dream is that GasGas might produce a 450 big block dual sport like the 2008-2010 TE 450, I would buy one in a heartbeat

I was thinking the same thing ... I know zero about gas2x bikes but depending on what they have purchased, via the bmw-SP companies, they just might have the necessary data to produce such a bike or even a larger CC model...

The xlites live on :)

Wasn't the rumour of a 450 xlite platform??

Gas gas, with the 310 reroute the breather return properly, make air filter access easier, tank removal easier, clearance on radiator hoses better, and use the updated starter gears :P

With those few easy to fix engineering flaws in the husky gas gas will have a weapon on a bike****************************************

I wonder why they care about the 2T stuff? I thought GG already had a darn good 2T motor?
i thought the gg125 motor was a yamaha yz125 or based on it? could be wrong but maybe they want their own small bore donk & then dont have to pay yamaha anymore?!

Not sure who is getting what for what, but yep, SP (the Juggernaut) might be undercutting the Isle of Japan on this front also. Might be a little EU-blood thing going here.

Husqvarna had some really good projects in the pipeline regarding the 2strokes....

BMW kept that Husky developed Engine when they sold the Brand (LOGO) off to KTM. And KTM was always only going to buy the Name.

Please help me get this straight ...You are saying BMW is selling all (2t and 4t) 'Husqvarna' technology around the world today? And KTM only, only has a brand name for future products? It would be nice to know the true business flow on this saga ...

Husqvarna AB owns the Trade Mark and always did.... Cagiva, BMW did and now SP/KTM, has to pay for the rights to use it. SP/KTM got everything except the BMW owned engines/bikes.... 449/511, 650 and 900 twin. I'll say I'm not positive about who has the 250/340 2T engine, but I'm guessing SP/KTM. rasputin, has said it's superior tech, to what KTM has been working on. With Euro 4 compliance for motorcycles, coming in a couple of years... this could be the prize. SP/KTM has sold off old Husky tech, to Shineray and Gas Gas. SP/KTM bought the Husky factory in the deal and are leasing or selling it to Shineray.

Shineray has a "Dark Cloud" on the horizon. A founding partner of SWM, say they have no rights to use the SWM Trademark and he will seek a legal solution.... Sherco had to give up the plan to use the Bultaco name 10 years ago, in a similar situation.

You are well informed! I can add a few minor details. The bulk of the old Husky tech has been sold to SWM (Shineray) together with the Italian factory and a couple of Husqvarna engine prototypes which were ready for production at the time of the KTM take-over. I believe SWM bought like 75% of the engine prototypes and that GasGas bought the remaining 25%.

This is good news because I really like my 310R and my KYB suspension is dialed.
I do not want to give this bike up and wouldn't mind having a TC 250.

SWM redhead...
