• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

nothing more to say. the bike is brilliant.
its got freaken 20 or more years of evolution,
Scot Harden and probably Tom Moen as well of the KTM US crew, were the pioneers /instigators and R&D guys on this side of the pond that worked the 250 engine into the open class motor.
The old days of the 350---was a sleeved down 500.
with the "new" 300 theory they went to open class from the other direction (250 to 300).
Im sure at KTM Austria they were deep into the design as well, my friend was racing a factory 300 in the early 90s in the WEC and Italian Nats.
Anyway my point is that this thing has mega years of evolution and a race winning pedigree behind it. My first KTM300 was the EXC model of 1991 the same type that was in WEC and winning at that time, I wanted to ride the "same" bike as that guy.
Then the next was a 250EXC , the Gio Sala machine! (that was my last Kato 2T until my new WHT Husky)

The 250EXC it was a first year of issue!! 1998, that I constantly upgraded and modified all the way to 04 when I got my first Husky 450. I sold it in 2004 to friend.
That bike was better than the latest models with all the rebuilds and mods I did to it. I will look for a foto of the 250, it was super dialed.

I had a 98 200exc (only rode it twice). That's my 2 stroke experience and it was beat so I refuse to base my opinion on them with that bike :). So was my 200 based on the 250? 98 was the first year for the 200 if I remember right. Either way, I'm sure it was an awesome bike. I want to see some wild 300 build like your 250, you should do it ;).

Glad your back, we needed more white bike talk :). Looking up videos isn't the same.

The 97 250 with ohlins shock on linkage was very good. Fond memories of riding my buddies back in the day. He bought the next year PDS and was pissed as is sucked in comparison.

the trickest TE300 Ive seen is the guy on T Talk with a full bling Ohlins suspended 2014 TE300...it is really super nice.......I wonder if he's any faster because of all the $$$ he put onto the bike (doubt it)........truth is the OEM stuff on any of these machines is way above the bar of 99% of us to fully exploit.

I saw that one! It looks awesome! I'm fine being the slowest guy on the coolest bike lol. Suspension seems like the tire discussion though. It may actually work for him. I'm just glad to have springs for mine, never touched suspension on anything I own. Haven't even tried it yet though, you know where I'm at right now :). Soon enough. It feels much better rocking it around in the garage though lol

I have ridden two full bling ohlins bikes in the last few weeks. Neither of them impressed me and one kinda sucked. The one that kinda sucked is on a A class racers YZ250. He just bought stock components to put it back and have TBT revalve the stock stuff. The KYB SSS stuff with TBT revavle is amazing. I think ohlins is overrated.

")........truth is the OEM stuff on any of these machines is way above the bar of 99% of us to fully exploit."

personal set up is all they need, the consumer/standard level materials, dims and specs are so close to factory level low production equipment now anyway. I think to some degree this is where those racing production rules/regulations help us consumers out to access top tier level stuff out of the box, at least not inferior in any way.

The suspension is the key thing when it comes to off road riding. It has to be set up correctly to the pilots weight. Too bad most guys hop on a untouched bike and think they can go really fast on the unturned suspension. I been very surprised that not one local dealer offers a option to setting up even the race sag for the person buying a new bike? Taking a few minutes can make a customer for a lifetime. At least set the static setting on the rear spring.

All great info. And everyone likes their suspension set up to suit there riding style and speed. I agree suspension is super important next in line for me would be brakes. Engine is the last thing to worry about as most guys could not even use a 125 to its full potential!
