  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Idiot Alert! 2013 TE 449 Air Filter Frame Thrown Out With The Trash

A Class
As the title states. I'm an idiot.

I was working on my '13 TE449 because my frien...Ex-friend dumped my bike and I had to replace a few things. While I was waiting for some stuff to arrive in the mail, I decided to do the air box mod.

Well I set the air filter with the frame still attached on top of my trash can in my garage, telling myself "DON'T THROW THAT THING AWAY YOU FUCKING IDIOT!"

I threw it away and it's at the CR&R dump off Ortega Highway now.

I'm planning on ordering one from probably Hall's after I give Uptite a call in the morning to see if he has one laying around.

Is there a temporary ghetto fix for this frame while I procure a new one? Could I just stuff new filter in with no frame? I may ride some mountain fire roads this weekend or maybe street around town but I don't think it will be that dusty. I'm not going to the dez.

Please advise.

Defiantly dont run without a frame it will try and inhale the filter, try some chicken wire / mesh form it in a nice bowel roughly the same size as filter, work out a magic way of installing it....

Probably wont work but ya cant get much more gehtto.

I have some aluminum mesh I used for my air box mod that may work. I can even make a slit for the hook in the middle.

Thanks!

Where are you located? Maybe you could borrow someone's airfilter for the weekend. Mine's just collecting dust at the moment. No pun intended.

price out some engine parts or a topend rebuild and then decide how ghetto you want to get...

That's an area I wouldn't mess with. For some reason condoms come to mind when I think about running a bike with a $3,000 top-end rebuild cost with a jerry-rigged air filter.

Chicken wire, the man said ghetto!
We have all been there desperate to ride.
Didnt say it was a good idea but it was an idea.

Order it.... and wait.

But in the meantime, if you do take a ride downtown- you're not gonna have a problem. Run without the airfilter cover ('cause of the dust/dirt in it) and a clean frame etc. Believe it or not, back in the day (w-a-a-a-y before my time) air filters were more for flame suppression... and to keep small rodents out of your motor.

But forget the fire road.

(I'm guessing the airbox mod is to make the upper cover more like the TC's & TXC's with their vent holes on the left side?)

edit: Sounds like domrvt might have one you can use; if so, put your bike in the truck, meet up & and grab his frame and go riding somewhere down there- maybe with him? Have the new one delivered to his house. Sounds like a win-win-win.

I rigged it up with some of the left over aluminum mesh that I used for the air box mod. Rides fine until the one I ordered. I was jonsing to ride this weekend but since we got good surf coming I'll be riding foam instead.

I ordered from jetworld powersports in LA the guy said a week so I'm good. Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the offer @domrvt !

you talking about the big wire spring inside the filter? wouldn't removing it cause the filter to collapse? What am I missing DM?
It shouldn't collapse at the size you'd need to clear the inlet ram.(I had to run my rally car once without one)
I was just thinking you'd need to clear the ram, but still zip it tight in behind and not cut the ram....
