  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm really starting to like my bike

OK, so I haven't had a bike of any kind for many years, and it's been even longer since I rode on the dirt. I bought a 08 TE 510 about five weeks ago. My first impression of the bike was, "Holy smurfin smurf!", I'm in over my head. The bike ejected me off the side of a steep hill within the first five minutes of riding it. Frankly, the bike scared me.

I've got a few hours on the bike now, and I'm starting to relax. I've learned to not slam the throttle and keep my foot off the back brake. What initially seemed like WAY too much power in a twitchy handling bike is now starting to feel right. I'm starting to get an idea of what this bike can do, and I think that this is going to be a serious load of fun.

Anyway, after returning from a ride today that involved mostly dirt roads and grassy hills I had another realization -Street riding is boring- I have a LOT of street bike miles, and as much fun as that was, I think the dirt riding I did today was way more fun than I ever had on the street. Maybe it's because this is all new, or maybe it's the lack of lines to follow. I don't know. It really doesn't matter. I'm having a lot of fun with this bike, and I can't wait to get back on the bike and do some more riding.

Husky 510.... Smurf yeah!

TE's definitely have their own unique personality. That's one of the lovable things that set them apart from all the other 4 stroke enduros out there.

You can go where you want in the dirt (compared to the street). And there are less people around :)

Maybe I'll see you at Hollister Hills sometime. I'll be the only one there on a semi-vintage (2003) TE610e. Yellow and Blue. Can't miss me, my number plates say "MNB" :)

Glad you're starting to like your 510. One of the best items I purchased for mine was a throttle cam from G2. You should check them out.

On any big bore, U gotten get good on throttle control ... There ain't no just grab a handfull of throttle in most cases ... U can probably ride it a gear high in most places ...

Riding n the dirt? No speed limits, no signs, you do what U want ... its great ... Street riding is cool and will not beat UR body up as much but too many laws, too many cars, and the coppers will actually steal UR bike and make U pay to get it back ... all in the name of civilization ...

That's on the list. I almost bought one the other day, but the price was a little too much in addition to the Rekluse clutch that I bought that day. I like to pretend that I'm not spending a lot of money on a toy.;)

Yeah, I just have to spread out the purchases so the little lady doesn't get too edgy. I have her thoroughly acclimated to my expensive hobbies, but the new bike sort of took her by surprise. I'll pick up that throttle on my next visit to the bike shop.

I'll second that! G" is the way to go ;)

grabbing a handfull of 510 is like pulling a tigers tail w/ vice grips. my 6000$ '06 510 SMR was awesome and nothing could touch it on the tarmac. not even my buddies 10k$ ubertrick KTM EXC SM conversion 570 stroker or whatever it was (that always overheated, leaked etc.) that he thought was the bees knees...the box stock hoosk would go around it on the back tire.

he stopped coming over for some reason.

I've just started to notice that my 610 is a little 'lurchy' at the low end. I'm a little confused if I want a smaller or bigger throttle?

Also, I really like to wheelie, but have some problem's modulating speed once I am up. Would one of these doo-hickies help me? (which one?)

On mine I have it set to give more control at 0-1/2 throttle (less hit) in the technical stuff. Bike still has no problems doing wheelies either.
I believe you get two different cams, one that give more control at low throttle and the other brings on the power quickly (more for small bore bikes). Hope that helps ya.
