• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Indian made X-lights? TVR RTR250 Thoughts

Some of you may have seen this before some may not have. Seems BMW is in talks With TVS an Indian manufacturer in building bikes and the RTR 250 is very interesting. It looks like a direct copy or better yet a Indian built X-light. Wonder if these will be manufactured and what the scoop is on them. Interesting. Maybe that platform if not 100% dead.

This one clearly has a X-light type motor in it where the ones below look to have a Indian rip off of a KTM 250F motor. My guess is this picture IS a X-light with blue plastic and the ones below are the bike they came up with based on the real X-light bikes.

"There was already another liquid cooled 250 cc, motocross motorcycle the RTR 250 FX which incidentally the factory racing team of TVS uses to race in the off road championships. But then according to my knowledge that 250 cc, liquid cooled engine of the RTR 250 FX is actually not TVS developed or manufactured but is an imported unit."

the motor looks more KTM from this side than X-light

Interesting stuff. Looks like they painted right over the footpegs and rear brake stop. Plastic looks cheap / shiny. Muffler looks big and chrome. Frame, swingarm, brakes, forks, triples and several other parts look right off a X-light.

Motor for sure looks like a KTM 250F.

Wonder what will become of this mess?

Yep, looks like a KTM 250F copy in a X-light copy frame.

Look at this KTM motor

Then look at this...

TVS please buy the 449 :).
I actually like it. The under tail is sportbike like. Hard to mess it up with copying a bunch of stuff so I'm sure it's awesome.

There is no ripoff in regards to the Indians (unlike the Chinese). Those are all legit biz deals with KTM (and BMW before) as well as licensed/purchased mechanical and engineering rights to build those models. Using what they have agreed to with legit paperwork. I for one am OK with the Indians, they are legit and have huge growing mid class. (yes they have 3rd world issues we know that but they also have a progressive nature about their country)

Actually I don't think any of those are copys, if you look close enough they are very similar.
Just blue painted plastics, the so called ktm copy looks to be just painted and different clutch and clutch cover (you can even see the hanger for the rear break lever spring which isn't used).

I am guessing the motor is NOT built by KTM but TVS using KTM licence and drawings / specs. And the bike itself is nearly identical to a 2010 TC250, might even be one. To me these are copies and BMW has released info that they are working with TVS so I'm guessing this partnership might end in X-light copies we see here or similar.

Different stator and cover but for sure KTM-based castings. Very interesting. I agree with Rob, India is an emerging economy and Country with some very good thinking minds developing there. I would be more receptive to their products than Chinese-produced goods or the likes.

I was not saying anything derogatory if thats how it came across. That said it does not look KTM or Italian husky quality ether. Lots of countries making great products these days. The days of cheap crap is almost over as everyone knows how to CAD and buy good metal and run a semi inexpensive CNC. Its all readily available proven science at this point. The Korean cars are pretty amazing quality at this point too.

As a start up Beta Enduro dealer, I keep thinking what the off road world needs is a entry level bike that can be had in $5000-6000 range that actually works. Maybe the TVS could fit that bill.
Then again a 3- 5 year old KTM, Honda, or Yamaha works pretty well as entry level also.

CCM is keeping the 449 platform alive. My not be in large numbers though. They are to make it to NA. I would like to have a new CCM GP-450. Looks pretty sweet imo. The x-lite platform, if Husqaberg isn't going to use it I sure hope it finds a worthy home. It is to good of a (new) platform to let die off. That will be nice if TVS/BMW will still produce the x-lite, but would a TVS be available in NA? Or anywhere else besides Asia for that matter?

I would simply love to see Cagiva get back the x-lite and continue to build the best bikes on the planet in the 4T mid cc range. I would be all over a Cagiva x-lite 300!
