  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Having problems trying to remove swingarm bolt on a 1978 WR250.? Help. Have tried heating swingarm ends with torch but do not want to distort and ruin a nice swingarm, I do not have access to a press. Has anyone have a knack for doing this ? I'd rather not destroy bolt or swingarm.

The bolt is probably rusted/seized to the collar. You might get it out, but you will probably have to cut the bolt and get another one. Last year I bought a '92 Honda CR500 and I had to do that, the bolt was so seized in the collar, even a press wouldnt budge it. I had to cut the bolt and get another one.

Where did you cut the bolt?, in the middle , or on the ends? I was thinking if i'm going to ruin bolt I was going to take about 3" out of middle.

You might have to cut it between the frame and the swing arm, but the middle could work as long as you can move the bolt/seized collar far enough to get it out. On the Honda, the bolt goes through the engine cases, so I had no choice but to cut between the swing arm and the frame.

Yeap, happens all the time, it's call dissimilar metals, bolts steel, engine cases are magnesium, bushing are bronze. Cut the bolt as Kartwheel68 said, i've used a front bladed hacksaw. I'd remove the shocks & air box , if you haven't already to give you more room.

On my 79 wr ,I used a air impact wrench over and over on each side . Lots of P B blaster . First loosen the left nut almost to the end , then tighten right nut with air impact wrench , then loosen right nut almost to the end, then tighten left side nut with air wrench , then repeat till one side finally pulls the stud or (bolt) towards you as your hammering the air to it, then loosen and do the other side, then just keep switching back and forth till you can tap it out lightly with a punch. Don't think this is a 10 minute deal it might take days or a week just keep soaking it and hammering with a good gun. No heat just steady patience .

Hey dude,

I live in North Adams. There are a couple of presses at my shop. Chances are we can find a way to get it done.
