  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is an '06 TE610 any good?

There's a 610 for sale near me. It's got low miles and a low price but has been pickled for a while and will need a bit of work to get running. It has the potential to be a little gem... if the TE610 is a worthy machine. I'm already looking for a larger displacement dual sport and have considered bikes like the DR650, TR650, and even F650GS. I understand the differences and am leaning more towards a more trail-worthy DRish bike than the road-oriented TRish bikes. I've currently got a TE250 that I like a lot so I'm partial to Husqvarna's and love the yellow and blue color scheme.

Question is - what's the scoop on an '06 TE610? Is it worth resurrecting? Are parts still available and cheap enough? Is there an aftermarket that could supply some racks, bags and such? Is it a reasonable bike for the dual sport job, vs the adventure job or the dedicated offroad bike, job? I do understand the tradeoffs. What would a non-running TE610 be worth considering that all the parts are there and serviceable? In general I prefer European bikes to Jap bikes so I've got an unhealthy bias already...

Tough call from what you have said. It is a roll of the dice - what is keeping it from running?
What is the low price?

I had a nicely modded DR650 with suspension and a 25# diet. It was a real good bike....raced an Enduro in the "c" class and won on it.

My 06 610 is MUCH better. More power, suspension, 6th gear, less vibes...better bike.

610's are pretty good all round bikes with an off road bias. A lot better on and off road than a DR with similar performance to the 630's -they have less power but are lighter. Like all Huskies keep the servicing up to them
