• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is this for Estart only? 99 TE610 engine question

I bought a 99 TE610, tarded, a while ago. It has an aftermarket left side cover that requires removing a bolt to check the oil, and I was stupid enough not to before riding it home, and am now getting a bunch of metal shavings in the oil - it made evil noises when low on oil, but nothing bad anymore. However, there was LOTS of metal in the oil and it seems that it keeps making it. Without a real oil filter, it's hard to be positive that it's still making the shavings but it was enough shavings that I'm sure something was seriously damaged.

It's got a Pro Circuit T4 (LOUD), FCR41, Excel/Haan SuMo wheels as well as stock ones, and an EBC 320 front rotor and caliper spacer.

So, any suggestions for what's most likely to have gone bad from running it out of oil? I'm hoping to not have to split the cases, but understand that I likely will. This is the left kick only/right chain version.

I've also seen some gasket kits for the 570, but am having more trouble finding them for the 610. It was my impression that the 99/00 TE610 engine, with the oil pump (but still no filter), was identical to the later 570. Is this true? If not, what is different?

When it was running, this was a seriously badass bike - and I'd like to get it back to that status. I'm hoping to not have to dump TOOOO much money into it, but I'm certainly willing to make an investment. Also, is there anything I can do to make this a bit more durable for street/supermoto use? I've been told they don't tend to last too long. If there's some oil made out of unicorn semen or whatever that'll make it last, or just changing the oil every 5 hours, I'd prefer that to rebuilding it really often. On the other hand, if I'm better off parting it out I'm willing (if hesitant) to do that.

Also, I hope this belongs in here because it's a 610 - if it belongs somewhere else I'm sorry, and feel free to move it.

edit: also, where can I get a service manual for it? How about a parts diagram?
