• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I just got off the phone with Blackrock Ranger Station and they informed me that ALL riding trails are open and USFS are gromming most every trail except for the most technical,,ie Rattlesnake etc... USFS will be going down Rattlesnake tomorrow (all 10 miles) to make sure its OK and no surprises... They did tell me that this was a very, very dry winter for them and that Fire Restrictions are going to be enforced like never before,,so put an extra couple of buckets of water on your Campfire before you leave for the day... Happy Trails everybody.

One year that we went, it rained every single day that we were up there, but the "no campfire" policy was being enforced. The following year, it was dry and dusty, but we could build a campfire...go figure.:excuseme:

But they probably won't let anybody have a campfire this year.

They informed me that you can have campfires in the fire pits,,but they have not decided if the overflow areas,,Troy and Fishcreek will be allowed yet,,go figure is rite.. :excuseme:

If we don't maintain our own trails they disappear under a pile of downfall and then are closed. USFS doesn't maintain trails for OHV use in our neck of the woods. They want to close them all down so why maintain them. Enjoy your time at Kennedy meadows, sounds like really good stuff.

It's an awesome place to ride and camp,,the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range i think that says it all.:D If you ever make it down this way Wally it's a MUST DO!!

I always camp the overflow campgrounds, as I like the price. Free is good. I'm not willing to shell out 22 bucks a night for an asphalt slab, a few more potties and faucets, and in the case of campfires, fire rings. Of course I have a micro hauler that makes the free campsites a bit more homey and convenient.:)

I think I will move this to General (Main) since it is probably of interest to others that do not have 2st bikes

I love Kennedy Meadows! We need to hook up there again, Dirtdame! We had a blast last time we rode there.

Yep! We camped there and the two of us rode all over hell and gone out there! Love that place.
The Rincon and the trail down to Kernville are pretty rockin', too.

Both are awesome trails,,have you been down to the bottom of Rattlesnake yet??

Yep. Numerous times. I love that trail and the water at the end.

This will be my sons first year that he'll be able to make it all the way to the bottom,,we try'd many times over the years but it was too much for him when he was a boy,,now i think he'll be leading the charge. :D

Yeah, the thing with Rattlesnake is it's really long and it's an out-and-back. If it's even remotely warm up top it will be hellishly hot down in the canyon. Then there's the rocks. And exposure. And water crossings. It's a tough trail! I'd like to camp on the creek at the end of it someday, though.
