• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

John,
There's a guy on KTM Talk, who just moved from Mexico to Cali. He's entered KOM, but is looking for some specific logistical info, that he can't find on the race web page. He rode Romaniacs this year, so I think he can ride and race. Can I send him over here to ask you? Merry Christmas!

Norman sure give him my phone # 760 275 6424 I only live about 50 miles from where KOM is held might just go out there the weekend before and ride last years course. Weather has been great here. Best time of the year to ride. Did he say where in calif he lives? I am also about 80 miles north of the Mexico border.

He posted that he lives 1.5 hours away from KOM location. I'll send him a PM, with your number and a link to this thread. Thanks John!

Hi everyone!

I'm the rider Norman was talking about. My name is Yoram Lavee and I just moved from Mexico to the US after 14 years of leaving there.
I'm B+ vet rider that basically like to ride technical tracks but love to ride whatever. From desert to light MX to nationals to H&S. I did a couple of ISDE's before, twice the Baja 1000 as solo rider and 3 times Redbull Romaniacs in the Hobby / Bronze category. Already registered for 2015 Romaniacs as well (it's addicted!!!)

Anyway, I'm 100% new to the US riding scenario, and have zero idea what's going on. But I believe on jumping into the cold water, so I've registered to the KOM as it's only couple of hours away (I'm from Corona). Problem is that I couldn't find too much information anywhere besides Lewis latter which clear things just a bit. So here is what I don't know yet

- How is the race plan? I understood that they will not do any qualifications, and they will do 2 races? each race is a single lap? how many miles each lap? how is the starting procedure?

- Fuel? can I do it with a std fuel tank or I need bigger one? (XCW300), Is there any fueling point or just the pit?

- They do recommend Trailtech GPS but I run Garmin Oregon for years. Is that will be OK?

- Can I choose any type of tires? Normally I would run Maxxis IT with Tubliss

- To pass tech I need SA silencer (on the way FMF "the Q") and hat else?

- What do I need as license goes? I did AMA racer membership but is there any club fees? district 37?

- I understood that most riders stay Saturday night in RV's but I don't have any (I will buy my truck in the next couple of weeks). Can I get an hotel/motel near by somewhere?

I'm still on vacation (but you can see where my mind is! lol) but going back on new years eve. Bikes (mine and my wife XCW200) should arrive around the 1st week on January so I have maybe 3 weekends to set the bike up and to get back to riding shape as I stop riding couple of month ago when we start moving.

Thanks for your great help answering those newbie questions!!! :)

Yoram

I can answer all those questions but I hate to type all that I live 50 miles from corona so give me a call and since I have done KOM 3 times and ride there a lot I will try to help you

Here are a few answers From what I have been told loop 1 will be like 40 miles not to hard then the afternoon might be something like
a 15 mile harder loop we might do a few times john 760 275 6424

I might be interested going there this Sunday or Saturday, but I don't have my red sticker sorted out yet (I paid taxes as I bought the bike out of state but since i don't have the original papers on hand yet, I couldn't do the stickers yet).
Can I ride there without the sticker? Do I need any adventure OHV permit or something similar?

Thanks!
