• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

LED tail light conversion........

NFA1934

Husqvarna
I've just finished and tested my LED bulb conversion of the tail light on my WR450 ,and thought that the information would be helpful for anyone wanting to upgrade their lighting while retaining the stock(anemic) Femsa light coil. The bulbs are BA9 type,6V AC,purchased from Superbright Leds. The attached pics will illustrate the results. Anyone with questions is welcome to PM me.....

Do they comparable components to build the same on 12V systems like our newer Motoplat Mini 6(45 watt MAX)?

Don't know..ask 'em. And,the question you should ask is: "Do you offer a 12V LED bulb WITH INTERNAL FULL WAVE RECTIFIER for use in a 12V AC electrical system ?"
The reason being that LEDs are DC devices by nature, and using them 'as is' on an AC system will only give you about 45% of their potential illumination, with the risk of damaging them from the reverse power pulse
of the AC. So,the proper set up is with a full wave rectifier between the AC source and the LED. The BA9 bulbs that I used are 6V AC with internal full wave rectifiers.

Thank you Sam. I will check into it
Here's their website -- www.superbrightleds.com The tech person that i communicated with is "Ben". Sharp fellow, and, he took an interest in what I'm doing (probly 'cause it was 'weird call of the month', lol)
Also,Jim,check the category "Other LED Bulbs"-that's likely the area that you'll be interested in (that's where I found the BA9's I'm using).

Good Luck.

I had done a search on their website for 12 volt leds and they have some bulbs that will directly replace a standard 12V auto AC bulb but $19 for a single LED cluster bulb didn't forn seem like what I was looking for. I will look for 12V versions of the BA9s you used

Hmmmmmmm....Well,try contacting the tech person that helped me. That'd be Ben Broeker, and his email address iz--- ben-b@superbrightleds.com . He'll help you...

I looked under the "Other LED Bulbs" you suggested and found everything it looks like I would need to do taillight, brakelight, and possibly turn signals as well. There are BA9S bulbs that are 12V and being directly related to the BA9s you used I would assume that they have the internal full wave rectifiers built in as well. I will confirm that with Ben prior to placing an order. I have several Huskys with the Mini 6 so it seems the best option to minimize the drain against the Mini 6 output. Other applications like my TT500 will get 12V conversion but with a small 12V battery being charged by the lighting coil in an XT500 ignition I am converting to 12V output

Good deal,Jim.....sounds like you're on your way...Dealing(i.e.,trying to improve) with old weenie 6V AC systems is fun, ain't it? (Don't forget,if you have a horn, for it to work properly,it also has to be AC.Fortunately, many of the vintage (import)scooters had AC (battery -less) systems,so that'll be where you want to source one...).
