    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

So, having procrastinated installing the cycra bark busters I purchased, I dumped the bike on a steep downhill this weekend and the clutch lever broke off in my hand.

Locating one that fits is nearly impossible it seems. I can order the stock part, at a reasonable price, but I'm thinking a nice, adjustable set of levers might be nice. Or even just lever with a better feel.

Motion Pro and Barnett make cables for it that should improve the clutch feel (it's kinda stiff and the lever wobbles a bit with the stock rig).

Beyond that, it seems there's nothing that's a direct fit. Either the bushing hole is too small, or it's not thick enough or the hole for the button on the end of the cable is too small (for the stock cable with the plastic bushing).

I was wondering what suggestions for upgrading the levers people here might have.

I have no relevant information for you, mnb. I just want to know where you were riding when you broke your lever :D

Well, I hadn't got around to putting on the Cycras (which need some serious bending work as it turns out in order to fit). So the stock POS guards didn't do jack.

I was at Hollister Hills. I took a right off Ridge onto Jay's Way, following some friends. It was the first black diamond I've done. Most of the blues aren't really all that tough, with a few exceptions.

Anyways, Jay's isn't too bad, but there are some steep downhill parts with loose surface soil. I had some difficulty managing my rear brake use and went sideways this way, corrected and then went that way and then down I went. The lever popped off in my hand.

I'm not sure how that happened, because I distinctly remember making an effort to separate from the bike once failure was imminent. But I was holding the broken piece.

I managed to right the bike on the steep hill and then I just walked it down to the next turn where it wasn't so steep, climbed on and fired it up. Navigating the last half with only one finger on a stiff level was a bit of a challenge to say the least. But I did it fine.

I stopped behind a fallen riding buddy not further down the path and got rear ended waiting for her to get back on and moving again. I couldn't really get off in that area, but I figured I'd wait around to make sure she got going ok. The guy didn't hit me too hard, but without my mirrors, knowing someone was approaching, then hearing the tires skid in the dirt and then getting bumped was a bit worrisome. I thought his two buddies were going to dogpile for sure, but they managed to skirt right and avoid us.

I wound ordering a couple levers from Halls since no one had them locally. Eventually I might go with some ASRs and a Barnett cable or perhaps Motion Pro. But for now, this will do.

I'm slowly building up spare parts for the bike. I figure in a few years, I'll have enough to build a 2nd TE610e.
