• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Living with 4 different brands - who is best?

Hi there,

I am a little different this (that) way but I own four different brands of dirt bikes. I have a Honda XR400 (my first purchase in the US 8 years ago), A 05 KTM 525, 09 TC 450 and a 05 Beta RR450.

I love them all and everyone has a unique character for unique riding. For thick tight forest style with "trail like" navigating I like the Beta - sweet manageable power, low riding feel...and electric start. This is no place for the Husky since it's power is crazy and the throttle reacts crazy fast (this has got me into trouble). I use my Husky in more technical open riding where I can "unplug" a little. The TC feels like I am riding a 250, the suspension and Brembo's work superb and they entice great motivation to hit obsticles harder and faster!

The KTM is a sweethaert as well and I have found that I am always pleased when riding the brute. It is a little big but the power delivery feels so smooth that you always know what is coming when turning the throttle. My XR I dont think I will ever sell - it's the last version and I rebuilt the motor about 30 hrs ago. this thing is fast and I have left many a new 450 behind......until you hit the technical trail and then you want to commit to suicide. But in open areas she is a gem. You know why they call it the XR400? becuase u have 1-400 kicks to start the ****!

My Husky was a bit of a lemon when I bought it and I have had some issues but it was not due to bad design, it was due to a previously shitty owner. I have grown to be very fond of the bike. It is crazy fast, very light, excellent accessories and components as standard. I am now in the process of going over the engine with a fine comb to get it all right - after this it will be a solid bike. I changed the sprockets front and back to have more top end, I also changed out the Husky handlebar mounts to a Tag setup (I had to do a little machining on the bolt package), the Husky setup just did'nt feel righ and I like Tag - very tough

But.....now I am looking to add a Oil burner for the tight stuff, so I am hoping to "adopt" a Husky WR300. So I will have 5 rock throwers in the garage. I will be more than happy to listen to advise.

Once you get hooked on the light weight and the 2t simplicity you will want to sell one of those if thumpers and get a trials bike. Maybe that's just what I would do. Lol

I see a lot more guys running trails tyres these days. The 200 is nice too, I ride a KTM 250EXC that sits in Portland - great bike!

I rode a GasGas 250 for several years, best damned bike I ever owned, especially since it had a plate. It was a bit too fast though and I was going to kill myself on that thing so I quit riding. After almost 4 years I couldn't stand it anymore so I got back into it with a KTM 250xcf-w. Neat trailbike for an old man, and the trials tire just caps it. The thing will go anywhere. No problem keeping up with the big bikes in the tight stuff. I really needed a plate though so I kept it and got the 630. Nice addition to the fleet.

One of my good riding buddies is a GP racer and he just got matching 200's for him and his wife. Hers has been toned down a lot with a flywheel weight and pipe, and lowered. His is setup for racing. They're pretty versatile. Performance is surprisingly similar to my 250 4t, it's just a bit snappier. But gee, 212lbs or whatever? How can you miss?

GasGas has some really cool new rides out. OOOh, that 630 is a brute, would love to try one. I agree on the 250, the 250EXC I ride out in Oregon goes anywhere my buddies go with their 450's. But I do preffer 450's in more open riding and muddy stuff...I love the sound and the bottom power, my Husky pulls like a race horse on steroids! I do want to get the WR300 two stroke, for real tight stuff for the Midwest. Your friend happy with 200?, I am 36 and still ride (try!) like I'm 25, so I preffer the power and adrenaline rush.....of the bigger cc's (that will fade over time I am very sure).

The only reason I like to buy and ride bikes (dirt & road) is that I have no children (spare $) and want to get all my toys before getting married.....becuase no more toys after "that":cry:!

Hold up a minute, finding the right wife is more important than finding the right bike. You can only have one wife, get one that allows multiple bikes....

Good idea, get the toys before you get married! Or do what I do, just buy it and bring it home! What can they really do anyway!! Forget the CC's thing. Last year at 45, I got 12th overall at mora on a 144!!! I rode my buddys 300. Not for me the 144 ROCKS!!! And now a 165??? The fun factor is high and the ergos of the 144(in my opinion are alot more modern then the 300 (not to say it is a bad bike!) Try a smallbore! Or hey a sexy new Gasser 200?

Now I don't feel so bad.... I have a 09' Husky WR250 and a 07' KTM 200XC. Which one do I like better ?..... The one I decide to ride that day ! It can be a pretty grueling choice some days as the little KTM is more fun than a barrel of monkeys ! I usually race the Husky though (ECEA hare scrambles) as the superior suspension and stable handling give me the confidence to charge a little harder. However there is a few "tight woods" races that I'll probably run the KTM on this year as it's a little more nimble in the really tight stuff....
Now go get that WR300 and start REALLY lovin' life !

I have 2 Husky's and a Yamaha. My wife and son have Honda's. I also had a kx250 until last year.
No loyalty here, but I prefer the husky's as they seem to work the best for me and they're cheap. Double bonus

yz250 for moto & dunes, wr300 for woods & dez, cr125 for moto & woods. It's nice to have options, but its not cheap or easy keeping em going.
With that said, my favorite are the 2 CRF's for my wife and kid as a once a year oil change and an occasional gas fill is the only maintenance those two need!

You already have the big bikes covered so ....I like Fletchman45 suggestion. I have a 08 Husky CR144, 2010 GG 300, and a 2010 Husky TC250 to chose from and most of the time the little CR gets the start. I'm getting ready to go 165 on it just for more fun. I will warn you once you go a light weight 2-stroke it will spoil you. Oh BTW I sold my Husky TXC 510, 07 Honda 450R, and my 06 Suzuki RMZ450.
