  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna
Hello, My name is James. I've been riding for about 4 years on my first bike a 2006 Honda CRF230F. I am in dire need of anew bike with more power and less weight. So I decided in April I am going to purchase a left over 2010 Husky TXC 250. I am 6'2 170lbs so it should be a really solid performer I am thinking. Anyways on to the questions,

How often should I change oil?
How often should I check valves?
Should I go over all the bolts to make sure they are tight when I purchase the bike?
Hows the fuel mileage on a bike like this? I am thinking a IMS 2.8 gallon tank when purchasing the bike at the same time.

A little background info, for my 230 I actually changed the il more often than I should have probably around 2-3 rides which were around 3-8 hours a ride depending on where I'm riding. I am mechanically inclined and my dad is also he has been a Ford mechanic for over 20 years and just retired at the beginning of this month. So tools are not a issue for me.

Anyways happy to be here, and look forward to some answer and knowledge!

The TXC is light and nimble. The throttle will probably feel pretty sensitive to you as well.

1) Oil changes after break in; I go with every 4-5 rides up here. If you're in sandy or dusty conditions or really abuse the clutch I'd do every 3-4 rides. That's still being pretty conservative unless you ring the heck out of the bike, I believe.
2) I checked mine after break-in and haven't checked since. They were in spec. and I don't ride this thing in upper RPMs on purpose very often at all. My dealer said the x-lite engines have been holding valve specs very well with adjustments very rarely required. I'll check mine again before summer hits. If it's starting alright, I'm not touching it.
3) Definitely go over all the fasteners you can get a wrench on both before and after you start riding the bike! Motor mount bolts seem to be fairly notorious for loosening, mine were a tad loose after the 1st couple rides but seem to have settled in now.
4) My mileage varies from upper 20's to mid 30's depending on the conditions. Upper 20's in gnarly stuff that doesn't flow well to mid 30's on more wide open terrain. I just installed the IMS 2.9 a couple rides ago and am loving not having to carry gas anymore. Mine fit pretty well.

The bike should carry your weight just fine. You're probably going to want higher bars or risers to get more comfy standing. I fitted HDB's handguard system right after getting the bike and it raises the bars a good .5 to .75 inches if you keep your original spacers as well. Stay in good contact with your dealer in case the bike needs EFI tuning.

Oh yeah, congrats on your inbound Italian/German beauty!

Great bike and a whole different world to your 230 (which is a very nice starter bike I hasten to say). You will notice a lot better handling, pick up, ergs, braking as you should with the price difference. I just love Huskies as they are real quality and a joy to own.

Been watching this unfold on TT. Glad you found us as there is a wealth of info here presented with no attitude and great members. Welcome.

Thats a real good bike, very light feeling and lots of quick power.

- Make sure you strap the battery down, they can come loose and end up on top the filter.
- Check your sprocket bolts the first few rides and always tighten the nut not the bolt
- Suspension will seem stiff at first, give it time and it is pretty good stock
- Motor will loosen up and run a ton better after about 600 miles
- If you ride real tight stuff you might want slightly lower gearing as first can be a little tall
- Will make a lot more power in power up mode.

Take care.

Change oil per the manual
Check the valves per the manual
YES. atleast I always do
Fuel mileage will be dependent on how the FI is set up and your throttle habits. I am getting a solid 40mpg with my 310, 250 should be similar maybe a little less cause you'll be on the pipe more I would think. your call on the IMS tank.

Go here and you can download the owners manual and look up the maint scheds
