• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Mariposa Fire..

Just wanted to say,,,I hope all my friends in Mariposa/Midpines area are OK,this looks to be a bad fire winds are in every direction,,its a part of the Sierras outside of Yosemite where i grew up,some of our members probably know the area..

Sad to hear about it. Saw smoke out at the high desert today. Lots of it. Probably in Mexico. Seems like I see smoke on every other trail ride these days.

I am slightly confused. Yesterday on the noon news they stated the fire was 0% contained and was 900 acres.
Last night on the evening news they said it was 900 acres and 15% contained.
Just now on the morning news they again said the fire was 900 acres and 15% contained.

Either that fire is not spreading quickly, possibly because it is already near the top of the mountainous terrain, or they are not updating the fires status as often as they have for other recent fires.

I know it seems they can't get any of it straight,,our local paper says the fire has consumed 1600+ acres and is only 15% contained as of 7:00am this morning,,this is a bad one...

...our local paper says the fire has consumed 1600+ acres and is only 15%...
That was the latest the news channel stated at 9am also. 2200 firefighters on it.

It does seem to be moving much slower than some fires last year though.

Yes the winds have calmed down alot,,yesterday it was crazy it changed directions several times, now burning in remote hilly terrain in Jerseydale,my sister had to evacuate from Lushmeadows not a ton a tree's where shes at hopefully the property will be ok...

Update on the fire,,its headed in a southwest direction converging on triangle rd area of lushmeadows 800 homes in the area, gusty winds have kicked up again,(I pray my sisters property and all homes will be ok),Jerseydale area firefighters(ground)are having to deal with steep terrain,,old gold mine pits and holes and snags,,also rattlesnake country too... I hate this many,,many memories here... I hope all my friends and relatives will be ok..

I have distant relatives about 25 miles south east of there near Oakhurst. My cousin keeps telling me he wantes to show me some good trails up that way, but never has his bike running, so I haven't got to go play there.

I HOPE HE BURNS!

just kidding of course... :)

Thats Miami Motorcycle trails hes talking about,,or a couple of dozen more in that area,,i know them like the back of my hand,,,its my old riding area since the early 80's.. I used to ride pilot peak and go into Wawona have lunch hop on the bike and back on the trails again,,sometimes ride into the valley floor,,where else can you do that in california,,,nowhere****************************************

40% contained, 1800 acres, sounds like they are throwing everything they can at it. Much better prognosis than many of last years fires so far.

Started with a smoldering campfire someone did not put out when they left on Sunday. :banghead:

Turns out my cuz is much closer to the fire than I thought. They have recommended evacuation in place, but I don't think it's mandatory yet.

Update,,Cal-Fire commanders have released 1000 firefighters,,coffee it perplexes me as to how somebody could be so STUPID and not put a campfire COMPLETELY OUT****************************************! :banghead:

Update,,Cal-Fire commanders have released 1000 firefighters...
Any other info? Acres burned, or % containment?

Suffice it to say that some news stations are better than others, and the one I listened to today clearly had info that was 3 days old..

Yes,,the info i put out is from our local newspaper Mariposa Gazzette,,as it stands now 1900+ acres burned winds have calmed down,,air support is the major factor on containing this fire it is 50% contained, the fire in some areas is burning back onto itself... :applause:

good to hear this is turning around. hats off to the firefighters battling out there.

i'm not from the area but we had a fantastic time on a CA trip a few years back and stayed in Mariposa for a few days. The Happy Burger Diner still makes us happy!

beautiful lands you have out west. we can't wait to do it again some day. (SF > Yosemite > Napa > Monterey > Big Sur > SF)
