    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Moto/MTB Escape - Colorado

I have a feeling it may have been blow by. Cylinder and piston I believe had some scuffing on one side. No details otherwise at this point.

John, how was your oil consumption? The reason I'm so curious is that I have 6000miles on my '14. It may have a lost a Hp or two but, really, I'm can't be too sure. OTOH, I don't spend much time above 8000rpm's.
 
Never burned a drop. Oil also was also very clean as were filters. I think possibly if coolant was mixing in it could potentially seep into the cylinder and affect a ring on startup. May have a been a slow scenario. Only sign of any issue was just my fan not working, but oil and coolant until the last trip were never being consumed.

Happy to get the 310 back. Engine completely rebuilt. New piston kit (only engine parts needed besides a plug), head and valve job (assuming valves and all were serviceable), Crank rebuild and mod. Coolant Temp Sensor/Fan Switch replace did the trick, so all issues addressed. Had forks serviced since the bike was in the shop. Now for some break in miles tomorrow.

Am back in business. After being out of commission for almost 6 weeks with shingles and our biggest fire in CA history, The Thomas Fire. it was good to get a few miles on the engine today after Ty rebuilt it. Did a 20 mile loop to check out the front country trailheads and see what was closed and how burned out. The entire mountainside it burned off. Going be a lot of slides and a mess once the first moderate rains come. Not to mention we have no open trails at all anymore.

That said. Engine feels and sounds good. Starts easy and runs well as she had been running. Tightened the clutch slave banjo as was leaking and adjust shifter and all is good. A few more miles and an oil change and will be good to go. Just need to plan a trip to ride for a couple of days somewhere.

Cold Springs Trailhead. Here are some photos I took on the cat road from San Ysidro and shows the area from San Ysidro to Gibralter Road which covers Cold Springs and Hot Springs. All a big moonscape now and going to be a mess when rains come...

On a trail run a few days ago just west of Gibralter Road which pretty much is as far west as the fire made it. This was from Rattlesnake Canyon and Tunnel Trail and shows what it normally would looks like covered in chaparal... Sadly fires the least few years moved in from the Los Padres Forest to the north and west so most of our recreation lands are burned out in now inaccessible.

It's sad to see the drastic changes to our mountains. I have a site on Gibraltar and decided one day to keep driving up the road. Never even knew that riding area existed. Bummer that I'll likely not get to enjoy it.

On a happy note, glad to see you are feeling better and back on the Husky. Good for the body and soul!
