• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

motoplat versus sem

hey guys, lemme pick the collective for a bit....
on the 87-88xc, i originally had the sem setup that called for 2mm advance...now ive switched to an external rotor wr motoplat. the motoplat on the wr called for .61mm advance. now that im running the plat, do i use the xc timing spec that it originally had at 2mm advance or the wr spec of .61mm since im running a plat from one?

im guessing that the timing spec has more to do with port timing or pipe shape than brand of ignition.. any experience with altering from the stock spec? the past twp years the motoplat has been at about 1mm..it has ran awesome, started easy, no kickback..awesome bottom and mid with very little top. i know the 87-88 kinda run this way to begin with...but i like to mess with stuff even when it works well.

usually need to run a more retarded ignition on top end screamers due to gas dynamics at higher rpm, if your not screaming its box off then i would leave at 2mm.you could boost your compression as this increases the speed at which the combustion/ flame moves but i wouldn't bother just ride as is.

the WR and XC are essentially the same engine, same cylinder, same piston, the pipe is basically the same with a shield on the WR
tune yours as an XC and you will be fine

so if the wr and xc are the same mostly, why do they have a different timing spec? is it just because of the ignition difference? im in running the motoplat do i stay with the .61mm?

Don't know if this helps, but here's what experienced Husky guys run out here in the NW. The notes are their settings. For expert riders.

I have an 87 CR250 and had an XC250
Kept the CR and never really rode the XC so can't really offer insight
Try both one will work for you
You know the ranges of advance you can play with right off
Don't forget to lap the mag rotor when you remount it
It's all about having fun and going vintage

yes, i really do love the bike..it has a bit of topend, but a nice broad torque from very low to upper midrange..great for tight woods..ill play around with it...worked well set at 1 degree...always starts 2 kicks cold, one kick hot..
loved the light output on the sem, was a great ignition except when it got the "fire up and run in reverse virus"....

Take care.
The SEM has NO built in advance thus the 2mm setting.
I believe that the Motorplat has a built in advance so if you set it at 2mm and it advances from there you will have a problem.
Stick with the recommended settings.
Cheers
