  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My first real ride on the Husky today

So today was the first day I've really been able to ride my first supermoto bike, a Husky 510. Got the clutch and the fuel pump sorted and this thing is a riot. It is going to chew through some tires. I rode for 2 hours at a semi-spirited pace and the tires look like someone went at them with a saw. May need to reduce the tire pressure. Trying some power wheelies and I could not for the life of me keep the back from spinning up when accelerating 1st thru 3rd. I can't wait for this thing to be broken in. I haven't really gone over 5k rpm and still had a lot of fun. Over 65 and it is a sketchy ride though. Front end bounces around and the handlebars jiggle. Sketchy is still fun though. Coming off of 7 years of riding sportbikes and nakeds so it's going to take some getting used to how fast it steers and the feeling of instability. Just wants to drop hard into a turn when I barely breath on the bars. Weird. I find that I have to be more aggressive to ride it well. On a sportbike you kind of let the bike do the work and on this you kind of work the bike more if that makes any sense. Found a few good turns and was amazed at how well it tracked and kept a line. Didn't even have to really think about it. Just point and shoot. Going over 55 through a turn and it feels like it becomes a little unstable. Well at least compared to a sportbike. May have to work on the suspension a little. Tried sliding the rear a bit for my first time. It was weird. Hard on the front brake grab a couple downshifts and the rear end just silently slides back and forth. Looking forward to becoming more capable on it. It's kind of like learning how to ride all over again.

Yes, I remember my first ride on a Husky
Though not as radical as your 510 the 610sm flight was truly magical indeed
Welcome to the clan

I don't know how close the bikes are to being alike, but Husky has dominated the supermoto stuff in EU since ~2005 ... not sure how they did this year ...

Have fun and be safe ;)

Awesome, its a good bike. For the higher speed wobbles there is a few things that can be done to fix this. My bike scared me at higher speeds before these mods.

1) make sure you get the wheels balances next time you get tires.

2) You can raise the forks a line or two in the clamps(if you do 3 then this wont be necessary)

3) get a steering stabilizer, it really helps to tone down the high speed shakes.

I agree, these things are very sensative to suspension setup and especially tyres. I tried a set of Goldspeed Street Sport Ultras on mine and it scared me sh*tless. (Had to remove them) With the OE tyres on and my setup,it is rock steady even without a damper all the way up to top speed:thumbsup:

I will try playing with the suspension this weekend. Another quick SM noob question. Plan on going out and trying some threshold braking this week. About how far will the front suspension compress during heavy braking? Is the long travel just for landing jumps or does it actually compress all the way during braking?

In most conditions and set ups you will endo or slide long before bottoming out your suspension during braking. Stopping quickly is always about smooth application and correct weight distribution. Check out Shane Watts' braking exercises in Dirtwise or on his website. Its not SM but there's some great basic skill builders in there.
