  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna
A Class
Let me start by saying hello to everyone, my name is Andrew. I just picked up a 87' 430xc. It seems like a good bike to start with, but it has one issue I need help with. The trans shifts fine, but in neutral the drive sprocket will turn and suddenly lock up. A quick jiggle back and forth and it will go around again for however many times it wants. No pattern to it that I can tell. Has anyone encountered this on a similar bike? I'm pretty sure the cases need split to check the problem. Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!! i'll try to add pics however im not too good at it

Have you started or ridden the bike? If the bike has been sitting a bearing or two may have a dry (think crusty) spot.

I have started it three times. I am afraid to put it in gear and let the clutch out!! haha I have bad luck with things like this I don't want to cause any more problems

no chain on the bike ! put it in gear. if there is an issue you will hear it and dont have to worry about gettin spit off of it. :)

Back in the day I had an '86 husky that when it was time to change the oil and I wanted to warm the engine up first, if I started the bike (in neutral) but on a stand, the rear wheel would actually turn; you could stop it easily with your hand. Figured it must be thick oil transmitting some drive or something. Never seemed to hurt the bike any........

there is always some drive via the oil friction btw the plates of the clutch and the gears etc. the drag of the chain and back wheel on the ground over comes it but take the wheel off the ground and it will spin it slowly. great for oiling chains etc.

I wonder if something is loose inside the box...bit of spring or something. or the shifter is a bit worn and the gears are touching... is the shifter mechanism ok or sloppy? the locating spring may be crook. (im not big on gear boxes but chucking some ideas about)

go to the Husqvarnaparts.com site and download the manuals and look at maybe popping the clutch cover off for a peep inside? its not hard to do (keeping the radiator hoses out the way is most difficult part!!)

otherwise take a leaf out of the chinese dictionary on mechanics...go to M for Maintenance??? and it says "see R for repair!" this takes on an interesting aspect when in an aeroplane!!!

change the oil and ride it around and see what happens

Great insight everyone. I changed the fluid and fired it up. Went through the gears pretty good. so I put the chain on and tried it again. Clutch was stuck. Got a running start down the yard and slammed first. Off we go! After a few laps around my yard it freed up the clutch. Then I hit my road which is in the country and started down it easily running into each gear. After a few miles I turned around in fear of running out of gas. Made it back home but not without notice that third and fourth gear seem to make some chatter. Im going to park it until winter and split cases. Kind of bummed out but man that bike has torque. My 08 250 feels like a 125 now
