  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My SMR 510 '08 - dont want to start

Husqvarna
Hi guys!
I'm having some troubles with mi Husky (SMR 510 2008).

After a month spending the winter in my garage I've tried the other day to run it for a while..before try to run it, I recharge the battery the day before just in case.

the thing is that when I switch on the contact, the panels works OK, the position lights including the brake ones are on, etc, but the turn signals, the horn, and the brake light, dont work. Anyway, I switch on the starter button (the one for the injection) and it does the usual sound, but when I press the button to start the bike...there is nothing.

It happens to me once before, same issue, but after repeat the starting process like 5 times, it works normal, but now, I've tried like 40 times and nothing.

I've made a video

I think it will be easier for you guys to check how it looks all the process in order to help me out with this issue that is going to kill me.

Does anyone had the same issue? and also, if you have any clue of what could be the problem, or where I should start looking, it would be grateful. Some guys from other forums told me to change the fuses which I've done with no success...other guy told me to try to start it using the jumper leads and again no success...

I was thinking that maybe it could be the Battery-Remote switch cable or the starting motor cable or maybe I'd try cleaning all the connections... does it make any sense?

Any clue of where or what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance!!

Check and replace the fuses under the seat. Also, replace the big fuse attached to the starter relay.

Pull the left side plastic off and listen for the starter relay to click when you push the estart button.

Have you ever applied dielectric grease to any connectors on the bike. You said it did it before, but did you ever find the solution?

nope 268fords...the first time it happened I just thought that it was something without importance, I just thought that maybe it was because the motorbike was cold and in the grage for a while, I mean, it took just 5 times to make it work as usual.
Anyway, the bike's electrical system (cables, fuses, etc) was never checked before, I guess this is the time right?

Check the connection to the wire that runs to the clutch perch as well. Sounds like that could be a possible issue as well

Hi RideLI631 why almost everybody is asking me about the clutch perch? I've never use the clutch to start the bike...:excuseme:
OlderHuskyRider I've tried that yesterday and nothing unless the whole connection is broken.

I found this in the manual:

Start motor won't start or slips
1. Battery flat -> Remedy Recharge (Done)
2. Control button on right hand switch -> Remedy Replace unit faulty
3. Starter relay faulty -> Remedy Replace
4. Starter motor faulty -> Remedy Repair or replace
5. Starter gears worn -> Remedy Replace
6. Free wheeel rollers worn or damaged -> Remedy Replace free wheeel

Will try to follwo your recommendations first and after that, start with the points above...
Thanks!

Ok guys! I fix it!! thanks for all your suggestions (I've made a nice list for the next time, ;)) and specially to RideLI631! you were totally right, it was the clutch switch connection. by still having the same question, why the clutch has something to do with the start process?

Many many thanks, you definitely saved my Weekend and a good bill from the dealer! I owe you a couple of beers!

Here is the clutch switch:

Take the switch out and connect both wires together. Just a govt regulation item so you don't hurt yourself. Just another thing to go wrong. I removed mine and never looked back

Yes, check that fuse, also, is the starter relay (in the pic) clicking when you push the estart button?
Hi mate is it meant to "click" my bike cranks but won't start just stopped like out of fuel today.I've never heard click coming from there so not sure if it should or not?
