• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need help to Identify 87 XC430 fork valve kit

Husqvarna
AA Class
I pulled apart a set of 87 XC430 40mm forks to inspect and install new seals as I want to use these on my 83 XC250. I found what looks to me like a high quality aftermarket dampening rod and valves assemblies. (See pics below) This looks to have replaced the complete guts in the forks and only reuses the oem fork tubes and spring that is cut down to 59CM. The spring sits on the gold steel ring that is located on the black tube. Can anyone tell me anything about the kit as to who made it and is it a good one? The upper black (hard anodized) tube looks to have a valve in it and a piston that slides up and down inside that tube. The bottom valve is simular to the oem valve but is different and the bottoming out cone looks shorter than the oem cone. Just like to know what I have before re-assembly. Thank you for the help.

what are those from?
don't recognize them at all
I pulled them out of a pair of 87 430 XC 40mm conventional forks. I know they are not the OE parts so trying to identify them. The pictures are showing only the dampening rod and valves from one tube. Hoping someone knows.

Yes that is correct but would like to know what company or manufacture made this dampening rod and valve kit this is out of the coventional 1987 40mm forks.

It appears to be similar to a Simons "anti-cav" fork kit but the dark colored tubes from the Simons kit were made from a PVC type material and yours appear to be made of metal. I do know Husky Products made an "anti-cav" kit but I have never seen one to know what they were made from.
The anti-cav was the fore runner to cartridge forks and back in the early to mid 1980's it was the "shiznit".

Thank you so very much for the info! I do appreciate it! I was beginning to think that I would never get a answer to my question. A couple of days ago I installed these 1987 forks and the kit onto my 83 250XC to give them a try. I modified the lower legs by removing the disk brake caliper mounts and filling in the machined area of the rear rib so they look just like the 83 forks. With this kit the forks have about 12.25" of travel a bit more than the oem 87 xc forks. I used 10 wt Belray oil to start with but may be to heavy, will see. It may be a while before I get to try them out as the weather here in north eastern Oregon has turned cold and wintery. If anyone has any more info such as possibly a catalogue or page or the Holy Grail, an instruction sheet for this kit please post it!! Thank you,

Marty

Marty let me know how this set up works . Ron
Hi Ron, I sure will. It may be a while before I can give it a good test as you probbably know the weather has turned cold over here in the Grande Ronde valley and the mountains have got a lot of snow already. I will probably take a trip over to the Baker City area, Virtues Flats when we get a warm spell.

bike looks great premo...wish mine still looked like that

thank you
new plastic and a good starting point go a long way, the pipe is an UpTite and works great too, I bought new forks and a new shock with a new spring for this assembly, pretty much went all out to make this at the time my daily ride, it is currently apart due to parts of a main bearing went through the bypass ports and took out pretty much everything up top, fortunately I have a bunch of spare engines laying around that I can slap in it, just having to much fun on the other bikes right now to worry about it, definitely this winter it will go back together, have one complete set of new plastics for it if it ever gets to looking a little dull, if you look hard you might notice it has a CR tank as it is a little thinner for riding in the trees, the shrouds give it away, it actually is a WR with an XC swingarm, a CR engine and a CR tank

i have a spare tank thats a cr and definitely noticed a slimmer profile...i usually run a xc/wr tank..i used to have it riding lower with a heavier, shorter, spring..i need to get a new one or powder coat mine...handled better, especially in the woods...im forced to run a lil too much sag right now..

Thanks for more info....I wish I can see the two tanks to better understand ....;).....

at the seat they are obviously the same but they get wide quick from there, adds at least a couple total inches at the front, my project tanks are stored or I would take a picture, the difference is 10L to 12L of fuel, where do you put 2 liters of fuel stylishly, if you look up the application obviously CR models but oddly all 240cc, WR400, European WR250 and 430 auto, who thinks this stuff up, my guess is in the US market they had the desert in mind for most of the line after CR
