• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

need info. on 1973WR

Bought a 1973WR husky on a 1974 frame and wheels and lots of other parts and frames. The motor dosen't have the flywheel or piston in it. The ingnition is the points ingnition so I bought a motoplat from a 1970 400cross on ebay that had everything but the coil. I checked everything that I could, the larger shaft and the base plate 4 1/2 in. across. On the 1973 it was 4 3/8 in. across, my bad. Is there anything I can do to make this work or just resale it. They make different base plates, but the one I got dosen't look like it comes apart. Also, it looks like the piston my be hard to find. Is it possible to put a reed system and newer piston in it and a mikuni carb. on it. I also need a exhaust for this. Don't what to put a lot of money in it till I hear it run. Might just sell parts off it if its going to be a money pit. Any help Thanks PS, Its also got a alum. triple tree on it, must be after market part.

I find a lot of parts on Ebay. Sometimes I need a gear and have to buy the whole transmission for the one gear, but in this business, you have to do what you have to do. I recently rebuilt a friend's '72 400CR and it had a motoplat ignition. You can see in the upper right hand corner of the picture the frame id is "MJ" which means it's a '72. So I can't understand why you have points unless it is earlier than a '72. It may take a lot of money to hear it so you may be better off parting it out on Ebay.

You may be able to get a piston from John at Vintage Husky. www.vintagehusky.com Phillip at www.husqvarna-parts.com my be able to help you but he mostly supports later models. Also check in Vintage Tech section as there is a listing for wossner and Mahle piston sources.
Also check with Huskydoggg as he is very well setup now

Not sure why you want to be rid of the points. There's nothing wrong with that system. Also, I would contact Forrest Stahl for any parts you need. He was great to me with my 73WR, as have other vendors mentioned here on the site.

I needed the flywheel and coil and I got this motoplat thinking it would fit. The shafts were the same size, but, the backing plate on the motoplat was 4 1/2 inches across and the points plate was 4 3/8 across. What luck Thanks

I wanted to thank Auto for all the help he gave me. We did some trading witch help me alot. I think I got the better end of the deal. Again Auto [ Joe] thanks.
