  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New owner of 2012 TE250 questions

Hello,
I just purchased a 2012 TE250 lowered edition off of the internet. The bike is being transported to me and will arrive this weekend!

It supposedly has only 180 miles on it and the pictures of it that I have seen look like a brand new bike.

My questions are what is the first things I should do to the bike?

Reading these forums it sounds like I should install a stainless steel oil filter and use 0-40 wt oil either Castrol or Mobil1.

Since the bike has such low mileage is it okay to go to synthetic oil right away or should I put more miles on with petroleum based oil before switching to pure synthetic???

How are the reliability of these bikes?

I appreciate any wisdom I can get.

Just ride it and see how it goes.

They need to be "powered up" to run right.
When powered up they run great but they are not as reliable as a WR250R.

Weak links are the E-start...I recommend you kick it...and the fuel pump.

Yes, use Mobil 1 0-40 oil

I appreciate the tip about kick starting...what bad things could happen by using the E-start?

Is it advisable to buy an extra fuel pump and carry on long rides?

Thanks

In a lot of cases you can minimize starter problems by making sure it does not labor. The decompressor can, at least and especially with the 310s, load the starter enough that it won't spin over TDC. If you ever have the kickstarter feel locked up or jammed, check and adjust the valve shim actuating the decompressor. The tight end of spec works while the loose end can cause issues. A better battery helps here too, to get over TDC. Such as an EarthX from Zip Ty Racing.

Hello Johnrg

That is interesting that decompresor needs to be on the tight side of the spec!

I appreciate the help

I just noticed that you live in Santa Barbara. I am out of Simi Valley. I once rode a dirt trail in Santa Barbara that I was told goes all the way to Solvang? I did not ride the trail that far, I remember the trail starting next to a shooting range and i was worried about getting shot as I rode by it!!!

That's West Camino Cielo. Some fun dirt sections. Once you hit Refugio Road you follow it all the way to 246 into Santa Ynez and then left a few miles to Solvang. From the radio towers to the shooting range is dirt and Refugio down to the base of the hill. Road is closed to traffic both ways but I went through a year ago. Some hikers/dog walkers.

I have the 12 te 310 over 1,000 problem free miles on it , I suggest you get out and have fun and don't worry about things that may never happen to your bike. Enjoy.
