• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC New TE 300 break in?

PDL

Husqvarna
AA Class
I 'll be picking up my new '14 TE300 tomorrow. I'll be installing the JD jet kit and an FMF Stealth S/A. Its been many year since I broke in a two stroke. Any suggestions?

Start it and fully warm it up for about 5 min without revving it up high.

Shut it off and let it completely cool (overnight or until same temp as rear tire)

Start it and ride it fairly easy at various speeds and throttle positions with some short wide open pulls.

let it cool completely

Ride it how ever you want it's broke in

How much time doing that ?
...Start it and ride it fairly easy at various speeds and throttle positions with some short wide open pulls.....

Over here the people still burns 1 or 2 full tanks of premix riding soft to break in the new bikes .... maybe overkill

Regards. ;)

There are a few extra things that can be done in the name of caution or overkill but as far as effecting or improving the break in they aren't necessary. The first heat cycle is by far the most important. The second easy ride heat cycle with varying speeds and loads is mostly for proper piston and ring break in. Riding it easy for a longer period of time won't hurt anything but you must be sure to vary the speed and load of the engine. Changing the trans oil after the first few rides or one tank of fuel is also a good extra precaution.

After I do the first 2 heat cycles I usually discover that the jetting could stand to be improved. Bikes usually come from the factory slightly rich and need some minor tweaking for the air density and fuel you will be using. By the time the jetting is spot on, the fork and shock clickers are close and the brake and clutch levers are set to my liking, I'm usually through the first tank of fuel.

Every bike I get, new or used I disassemble the entire chassis and grease every bearing including foot peg and control lever pivots with enough waterproof grease that there is no room left for water to get in.

Thanks for all the help!! Its nice to have confirmation as to what the shop said. The shop mechanic said basically the same procedure. At least 3 heat cycles with a cold engine in between. Then change oil, plug and the air filter if necessary. Then ride it!! I can tell the jetting is off so the jd jet kit will go in tomorrow after break in.:applause:

Congrats on the bike.
Found the standard jetting to be ok for me, what will JD jet kit do for a 2t, not fitted one of those since my 04 450sx? Let us know how it feels once fitted.
