• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Just wanted to say hi.I just picked up a basket case 1981 430xc cant wait to get my hands dirty on this reastoration .This is my first husky as i have lots of parts in boxes it came with two engines two tanks one metal and one plastic extra wheels almost enough parts to make two bikes minus one frame.im sure ill have lots of questions when i start. This looks like a good place to get some answers.thanks Brad.

bit of a coincidence just picked up mine today aswell, xc frame and with 1983 wr430 engine, already stripped it down to a basket case and getting my head around what parts i require.i will need engine cases, crank rebuild and new sleeve or piston.

This looks like a good place to get some answers.thanks Brad

Yeap this is the place

down load the parts manual and then you can do a nut and bolt inventory..print it off and stick it in the shed

My 1982 430WR came to me as an unknown basket case in a jumble of a complete 82 250WR roller in baskets, 86 400WR roller in baskets, an 85 KX125 with a Husky cradle welded in and another 82 250WR engine stuffed into it. An 88 KX250 was in the jumble with an 86 engine in it. There was another 82 WR frame with no wheels for it but came with an addition pair of 82 Ohlins shocks floating in the jumble. I sold off most of the stray KX parts to pay for pistons and cylinder bores for the 400WR and an 84 250WR I picked up along the way. Most of the engines are ready to assemble now. The 430 has a good top end but the crank had a bad rod so I got a replacement with a good rod but had to chase the threads on the stub ends because the threads were all rounded over. I picked up an 83 WR frame for it so it may become a dual or tri build as I also have an 83 CR frame stripped down to metal in prep for swingarm pivot repair and an 82 430CR maroon tank that would look nice on either frame. The 430 engine has enough torque to be a universal powerplant

It should work. There may have been porting updates by HVA between the years or a PO may have got industrious with porting mods on either cylinder. You never know what you really have when you buy something that old. You may have to find port specs to find out what is stock or not. My 86 400WR came with what looks like a Dynoport pipe and a Bing Mag carb. I can only wonder what the porting is in that until I get some stock port dimensions for it.

Regarding what you have the 1985 250WR was aircooled twin shock and the 1985 250XC was liquid cooled and single shock as well as the 1985 CR and the 1985.5 250WRX. The 1986 250WR is liquid cooled. Best would be for you to check your engine and frame numbers at www.husqvarna-parts.com YEAR/MODEL/ENGINE/ID tab on left.
