    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Newbie with Terra 650

Hello everybody;
I am from Spain, just got myself an almost new Terra and wanted to join this community that seems to have such great info on the bike.
The fact is, I got here by reading real bad news about the Terra (http://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/seven-lessons-learned-from-owning-an-exotic-motorcycle). I got really scared and I agree with this guy on the fact that a good forum provides great help on bikes outside the mainstream.

With only 1k miles on the counter, mine runs smooth and I haven't got a problem so far other than the stuttering FI, which I read you call around here 'lean stumble'. I guess it's the same problem: overall, the bike does not seem to run comfortably under 3k rpm, and it gets worse in first gear, where sometimes you can see the counter rev up, find a dodgy gap that stops it all, and then regain to upper revs again. When this happens, sometimes it stalls at that gap, and sometimes I play with the clutch good enough as to keep it going.
Em, I also had troubles with the tricky oil refill plug, whose thread is almost gone; I read a couple of things around here already, but it seems that in Spain we're gonna have more problems in finding good replacement parts for our Huskies.

Anyway, it's great to be here and read you all, I hope I can enjoy my Terra and all your comments.
 
The TR650 isn't an exotic motorcycle. Husqvarna's been around forever, as has BMW under which it was built. I've not yet owned a bike that didn't require some mods to get out the bugs. Being a first year model there are a few more bugs than usual perhaps, but the design is solid and the engine is bullet proof. Perhaps the RevZilla hatched job might be better titled, "Seven Lessons Learned From Owning a First Year Motorcycle." Either way, the problem modes are known and extremely well documented. I kind of got terrified just after buying mine a month or so ago, but feel good about it now. I would recommend putting on a new set of handlebars though. Renthal Vintage/Desert fit great and won't bend like the stock set.

ADV rider is a must for the latest information. CafeHusky is a little behind and a little less active...
 
CH is pretty active. Just subscribe to the subjects you like and they will highlight in the alerts list up top on the right. The format is limited here because the owner has the site so secure. Thus we are limited from postings some information. That's why I maintain the OEM/INT list and the linked thread index on ADV.

I rather call CH the place for the genuine, 1.generation info (the stuff the early adopters/ owners found/ fixed and published) with ADV being the spot for the 2. gen TR-noobs essentially warming up the long-documented issues and fixes over and over.
 
The thing is, and please forgive me if you find my language clumsy at times, not my native tongue, that after some visits I paid on my area, the bike seems to be in nobody's land. In BMW they told me they don't use MOSS any longer, but something called XIA or so, in KTM said they can do revisions for regular maintenance, but not anything related to electronic diagnosis. In the Husky dealer (yep, I still have one near home), they said they will try to connect it as soon as they get the plug (the thing got broken and they're still waiting for the piece), but didn't seem to expect great results.
So it looks like I'll need to wait for the EFI thing.
I read the definitive airbox and air filter mod post by Charliedrz and, even if I don't think a PHD. in mechanic science would have explained it better and clearer :notworthy: , it is still far beyond my mechanic skills, so all I could do for this is get the piece on a US web, have it shipped here, and go to some garage I trust to have it fitted, and then cross my fingers to not have any weird light on the dash, or some other polstergeist in performance.
It is not obviously what one expects to find when getting a new motorbike, but I like it and I also think the engine is great (I had an XT 660R and like this one much better) and will probably improve as we get more miles together, so it's only these two things I need to be aware of.
