• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Non start - 1979 125cr - help please

The engine has been rebuilt. Compression is good.
Good spark at plug. Fuel present in float bowl.
Fuel poured into spark plug hole enables engine to start briefly and there is a “phut” through the carb as it dies.
I have kicked it over and over and it’s not even trying to fire.
I am presuming the timing is out? Unfortunately the link for the ML/MK Engine Manual available on this site is corrupted so I am a bit stuck at the moment because I have not got a clue re Motoplat ignition.

Any advice or tips very much appreciated.

May need a set of experienced eyes on it so any advice re good workshop in England would be most welcome,,

Thank you

Engines need fuel, compression, spark and the correct ignition timing to run. Assuming the engine ran ok prior to the rebuild then something is missing or out of range in 1 of those 4 variables. Eliminate each variable one at a time.
Fuel. The engine runs if you squirt gas in the plug hole so this would indicate the timing, compression and spark are good.
Compression, see point 1. It ran however do a compression and leak down test.
Spark. See point 1 again. It ran so spark and timing should be ok. Check your flywheel woodruff key is intact.

It sounds like a fuel/carb issue.

If you haven't fixed this already check the woodruff key hasn't snapped causing the ignition timing to go out. Happened to me.

If you are getting a backfire through the carb suggests you might have a problem with the reeds, broken or not shutting properly?
