  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I saw a photo of the filter with a rubber gasket that went on the opposite of the cartridge than the cover. In other words place the cartridge on the cover and then another gasket goes on the opposite end that butts up against the engine. I changed my oil and didn't have this gasket. Is this a bad thing?

There is no gasket on the side that faces the engine. The filter press fits onto the nub on the filter housing cover, and there is a wave or "Belleville" washer between the filter and the engine case that holds it in place. There has to be a gap between the engine case and the filter in order for oil to enter the filter housing and for the filter bypass to work if your filter gets clogged.

okay thanks. My dealer says this comes with the filter. So 8 in the picture fits on the filter between it and the engine case? I did not have this and ran my bike I hope I didn't do any damage.

Sometimes it appears not there but residual oil keeps it stuck there. Feel around just in case. Hopefully oil pressure kept the filter against the cap. Hell... My dealer tech put the filter in backwards one time. If I remember correctly on my next self service oil change, I was not surprised in the least at what was found

When I bought my bike the dealer gave this 'coupon' toward accessories. Spent it on oil filters. None had the Bellville washer in the package.

Yes, 8 in the picture fits between the filter and the engine case.

The washer is sort of bent or twisted to produce a spring like effect to push against the filter.

Now that you mention it I do not remember ever seeing this washer. I think when the dealer did the first oil change the tech forgot to put it back in. I have changed the oil numerous times and never saw this thing. I guess this has to be ordered through the dealer. Do you know where I can get this Bellville washer?

Have a look, it's at the back and doesn't just fall out , it can stick to back of filter recess and you may have just never noticed it.

Lie bike over and check , that way you won't lose the oil and not have to do a change.

What rabskyline said. Mine has stuck to the engine also. Someone not expecting a washer may view it as casting.
