  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

oil seepage

nep2012

Husqvarna
A Class
I have a 2012 Te 310 with oil seepage on shift side of engine wear wires go into engine. I tried silicon but it still leaks. I am thinking I have to take the cover off the side to properly seal the leak. There are wires that go into the case and it seems oil leaks from that area.Any advice?

Yeah, they do that.
I done my first oil change today. Pulled the stator off, sealed around both surfaces and also the wiring grommet, inside and out.
All others I know with them do it.
Nothing real bad though, just messy and a dust magnet.

Drain oil.
Remove bolts, top one is longer.
I mark them with permanent marker.
Remove shifter, 8mm, mark position with permanent marker
Remove cover, it's tight and magnetically pulled on so expect to have to pull it hard but watch wires !!!

Clean surfaces with brake cleaner, both sides and metal gasket too(if you want to seal this surface.)
Clean inside wiring grommet thoroughly.
Apply sealant, I used sikaflex selant.
Reverse above, change oil filter, refill oil (850ml on mine) done.

easy fix go with rabskyline complete oil change should be a bit less than one litre

Got to take the cover off and put silicone on the gasket and where the wires come out of the cover. Did mine and all is well now.

Oil volume spec:
900ml with filter change
850ml just oil change
(I sneek in 950ml with filter change... takes oil to about 3/4 way up sight glass)

Laying bike on its side when doing seal job makes it a bit easier IMO (make sure no fuel is leaking from the fuel cap/breather hose)

Oh.. the cover can be almost impossible to "pull" off some bikes. See Dartyppyt tip with hose clamps in this thread... http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/te310r-removing-alternator-cover-am-i-missing-something.35822/

I topped up with 1000ml,I overfilled a tad as I filled without measuring what I took out and having Yamaha's that take 1000 then another 100, I forgot ! Doh !
Top of sight glass.
Side cover, I was like wtf is holding this thing on but it felt like it was magnetic so a bit of a tug and it was off, just need to be mindful of wiring for stator.

Thanks for the info. Not too much oil loss but just messy, a dust magnet indeed which eventually runs down the frame and on the skip plate.

Thank you for the info took your advice and it worked except for one thing. Now I have a small leak around the gasket that was on that side cover. Guess I didn't clean it enough. Would it be a good idea to put the same high temp silicon I used to seal the gromet around the wires on both sides of the gasket for the side cover?

I had my bike in at Bill's a year ago with the side cover leaking. We discussed doing the side gasket as well as the grommet since I used to do that for problematic gaskets in the past. Can't hurt to do so and no more leaks for me. Just go super light on it. I think Bill liked/used hondabond.

Yeah, remove it, clean it up, maybe pinched it.
Torque bolts evenly too ;)

I did this to mine, took cover off and put in high temp silicone, and it stopped the leaking for a couple months, then I notice a small amount of oil leaking the other day. So it is not a permanent fix.

I just noticed oil seepage on mine in the same spot.. I ride a 2013 TE 250R and have only done about ~500kms...

I followed others advice and I think I fixed the problem. Took off side cover cleaned evrything with brake cleaner. Cleaned rubber grommet wires went through, cleaned gasket on both sides, cleaned side cover along edge. Then I put high temp silicone on all surfaces. I also pulled wires through grommet a little and put sil;icone on wires and pulled them back through grommet. Seems to have stopped the leak.

I took my bike to the shop and the mechanic said that they are not properly sealed from the factory. He will be cleaning and spraying with silicone.

Cheers,

Tristo

My 2007 TE450 leaking from alternator cover wires too.image.jpg
Thanks to the help in this thread, I had a better idea what to expect getting the cover offimage.jpg
Strong magnet

Took the rubber grommet out, cleaned , silicone sealant inside and out. Back together, loctite the cover screws, torque to 8nm/ 5.8 ftlb
