  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Opinions about the autoclutch..

Hello,
I am browsing regarding the rekluse autoclutch.
I have the -08 TE250 & I would appreciate you opinion about:

1) Is the autoclutch'ing cheating, you think?
2) As a beginner, should I use autoclutch or put the first hundred hours with ordinary clutch?
3) The small 250 engin I have almost never stalls even on our extream tight & slow track, is the autoclutch more valid on other/bigger types of bikes?
4) Is there a autoclutch available at all for my 250 -08?

I just got a 2009 TE 250 with an auto Clutch. Almost didn't buy the bike because it had one on it. Never rode with one because I am old school. Now, since I am used to it, I don't think I will ever go back. I have a 2009 KTM 250 xc-w and am going to get one for that bike as well.

1) It is Kinda like cheating in certain circumstances, but that's OK with me.
2) That's your call. Riding is all about having fun.
3) It's all on your personal preference.
4) EFM Autoclutch is the one I have. Garry is very helpful.

When you have short legs and no electric start and fall down on a nasty hill you will love an Auto clutch, just pick it up and walk beside it till you can get a leg over and ride up, works well on a 167 for me and a lot of us old farts.

Bought my first husky with an Rekluse auto clutch, I'll never go back. It allows me to concentrate more on choosing my lines instead of working the clutch, especially on wet, rooted, steep, crappy up hills. Also noticed a reduction in arm pump, especially when i'm tired. I wouldn't call it cheating, but more of an unfair advantage over your competition.:D

SOLD

Well, this seems like a god time to mention that I have a brand new in the box/shrink wrap Rekluse Z-Start Pro for an '08 (09 10?) 450/510 for sale. I bought it when I was struggling with the technical stuff. I bit the bullet and learned to feather the clutch and/or fall over gracefully. I never installed it, and it's been on the shelf for months. I payed about $500. If anybody is interested, make a resonable offer. I'm in the SF bay area if that makes a difference.

I would like to have one for my SM630. No rocks and roots on our streets but it would sure be nice in the daily stop and go traffic. (No lane splitting in Oregon. :( )

I used one for a short time and liked it in the singletrack for racing. Any other riding, I think I prefer the stock clutch. The auto clutch made me faster in the singletrack by a good margin.

Is an auto-clutch cheating? If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying LOL.... Some old school guys would say an A/C is, but they think electric start is cheating too.

I put a rekluse pro in my WR250
its the best mod especially because i hate stalling and having to use the toothpick size
kickstarter

the autoclutch really shines when trails get nasty

I have an auto clutch on my 450. Sometimes I like it. Sometimes I don't. I ride the bike using the clutch as if the auto clutch isn't there. When its time to bulldog the bike down hill it doesn't hold you back.

I had a rekluse on my KTM and loved it, have a EFM on my wr125, and as soon as I can afford it I will have one on my 2010 TC250. Lets me focus on the trail, gas and brakes. I get better traction, and I think tires and sprockets last longer.
It may be cheating in some eyes, but I remember when I was a little kid my dad made me learn to use a slide rule before he would buy me a calculator....

Personally I think you are doing yourself a disservice if you learn on autoclutch.

But some swear by it. It's kind of like learning on an Automatic or Manual for cars. It maybe easier to learn automatic, but is that always the best way to learn? To me - taking the harder route will always improve your skills tenfold.

Each to their own

Right but it doesn't teach you the fundamentals of dirt bike trail riding where clutching and when/how to lug a bike is a lost art. Personally, I'd rather spend the $500+ elsewhere

I have too many bikes.....and not enough money! I don't even want to try one, in case I do like it. Then I'd have to have one on every one of my
bikes!

Tell me about it. I find myself with four of em.

They don't make one for the 449/511 yet do they?
I'm quite sure that EFM can fix you up. You send him your existing clutch and he (Gary) reworks it. I have one of his in my WB165.

I'm good with that..... I rode for 20+ years without an auto-clutch, but I liked the A-C so much that I threw the clutch lever in the garbage & replaced it with a rear brake.

My oldest boy is 9 and has no A-C on his little KTM 65. He can have a A-C when he can buy it himself. LOL
